After a restless night caused by Charlie's numerous amount of mozi bites we went to the Mawar Kuninh Wisata water sports activity center. Where we had booked a package of a glass bottom boat trip to visiting Turtle Island and an hours snorkeling. What surprised me wasn't the fact the the boat only had a three foot glass screen, but that we had in effect chartered the whole boat just for us! In the Turtle park / sanctuary we saw baby turtles ready for release, a five year old that we held and stroked, and we also got to paddle with twenty in a holding pen. This pen held their oldest turtle which was according to our guide seventy years old and was about four feet wide! Unfortunately for Charlie when it came to feeding time ... read more

Major panic! The alarm went off silently so we were woken at 07:30 by the telephone ringing! So slightly bleary eyed we headed off to the local market with our cooking instructor and another "student". The market was amazing, walking around with someone who knows what they're talking about always helps, especially with everything so foreign. After the tour we headed to the cook school, or rather the really impressive kitchen of a guest house! We were treated to Hibiscus Tea and a selection of sweet rice deserts, which are served as snack items or for celebrations. It's amazing what you can do with rice, palm sugar and coconut! The cooking class itself introduced us to ten traditional Balinese dishes. Thankfully the kitchen staff had carried out the more time consuming task of chopping and slicing ... read more

Do to the rainy weather we decided to spend the morning wandering around the smaller (and even more manic) streets of Kuta. We also thankfully backed up our 1000 photos for the last two months! In the early afternoon we both underwent therapy in the form of "Happy Feet", this was suppose to rejuvenate our weary feet after 70 odd days travelling and included reflexology. However I spent half of the hour in agony! Evidently this has something to do with my Kidneys and (now non-existent Gall Bladder)! We then spent an hour waiting and half watching a Hindu ceremony (celebrating the full moon). After a swim to cool off we haggled what we think is a fair deal at a tailors for a skirt and trousers for Charlie! We then had our oddest meal of ... read more

What another brilliant day in Bali! After a long lie in we started the day with Charlie going for a run and myself catching up on the news! Our morning was spent in "Waterbom" a water park with some awesome rides. Our first ride and probably the best was on the "Boomerang" basically a huge half-pipe, where you ride on an inflatable down a tube then up the half-pipe around fifty feet, only to then descend backwards and over a ramp before hitting the water! We spent around two hours going up and down the eight different chutes and drops! Charlie may have overcome a part of her fear of heights when she did the "Smashdown" a near vertical water chute! We spent the late afternoon being driven to Pura Luhur Ulu Watu, a cliff top ... read more

Did someone mention it was the Wet Season! What a fantastic day! To day we hired a driver (Putu) for the day all for £15. Our first stop on the itinerary was to the "Elephant Safari Park" (following in David Beckhams footsteps)! The drive their took 2 hours along manic roads. After the motorbike the Balinese wouldn't say the car was the greatest invention, but the horn in the car! They honk at everything from dogs to bumps in the road! But what a great journey, when we weren't looking at rubble, temples or market stalls we were given the delights of Paddy Fields stretching into the distance, at one point on a busy road there where numerous peddlers selling international newspapers. Though it seems that it's only the front page and the rest is just ... read more

Charlie fitted in a forty minute run along the beach boardwalk. After another good breakfast we again spent the morning by the pool before organising tomorrows day out. We then took off into the streets looking for lunch, finally settling at a Tapanaki counter, it's always great watching a chef at work! Our main task today was to find the Bali Bombing Memorial. This in itself took a few hours as we wondered off the more traditional tourist haunts and through the smaller back streets with the more persistent stall owners. The Memorial is a very simple design with 22 flag polls representing the countries that experienced losses. Though simple the design is very effective and it's sombring to realise that the majority of the victims were backpackers! Our evening meal was at Batan Waru, an ... read more

After a decent nights sleep we had a buffet breakfast and then tried out the three pools, an infinite pool over looking the beach, a spa pool and a general pool with a pool bar. The pools are beautifully located in the hotel gardens standing along side temples. We had a good hearty lunch by the pool for less than £5! Lotioned up and repelling mozi's we ventured on to the pot-holed streets of Kuta! Western shops like Nike, Billabong, and Rip Curl along side the more traditional (tourist) shops selling everything from jewelry to Nike, Billabong... The traffic is manic mostly with mopeds intermingled with the odd taxi beeping away to get your attention! The battered pavements are littered with more drivers offering the seemingly nonexistent taxi with hawkers! We decided to eat at the ... read more

Our last day in Australia. Charlie went for an early morning forty minute run to the botanical gardens and then we hit the pool to cool down. We've been really lucky in Darwin (even taking the humidity into account). Seeing it in the wet season is a real joy, everything is so lush and vibrant! The wet season has also helped as the majority of visitors come in the dry season, which has meant that Darwin is more relaxed and chilled out! It would be interesting to see the place in the dry season to compare not only the environment but the atmosphere! Once checked out we strolled around (a shut) Darwin center and catching up with news from home. Congratulations Helen & Rich who recently got engaged in New York! Our flight to Bali was ... read more

In the morning we got a taxi to Parap market (nobody walks the 3km in this weather). Where we had breakfast (Pancakes for Charlie and Sauteed Squid for myself) and wondered around the weekly market, an array of multicultural food stands, aboriginal goods and the ubiquitous tat stalls! We then had lunch at the Star City casino where we walked to Mindil beach. A pretty cove where unfortunately we couldn't swim due to Crocodiles, Sharks and Jelly fish! On our walk back to our apartment we got caught in one of Darwin's famous rain storms! Our evening couldn't of been more perfect with the storms breaking before we boarded the Anniki (the Pearl Lugger that featured in the film Australia) for a Sunset Harbour Cruise. The sea was dead calm with only a very slight warm ... read more

Another fairly early start today (7:20) for a trip to Litchfield Park. The trip started with the feeding of Barricuda and spotting Short and Long Neck turtles at Howard Springs. We then went to see Cathedral termite mounds. These grow on average about 1 meter a decade so we were surprised to see one around five meters tall! Next to these were Magnetic termite mounds, these look like tombstones and are always orientated North / South to allow the flat faces to pick up the heat from the rising and setting sun! The coolest part of the trip was yet to come as we swam in two Waterfall pools (the Florence and Wangi Falls). What we didn't realise until after was that these are still inhabited by Fresh Water Crocodiles (though evidently they're more scared of ... read more
