Oban So we set off from Glasgow to Fort William, via Oban on the west coast. The road isn't exactly straight to Oban from Glasgow, and it took us winding around the countryside following the coastline for most of it. Along the way we found a church - a very old church (the name of which has escaped us - bad tourists!) - which we were able to walk in and check out its great architecture. It appeared to still be in regular use, though with stone floors and walls, it would be a pretty cold service and this is summer... I hope it still gets a hearty attendance during the winter months! :S Before getting into Oban, there was a castle ruin on a peninsula which we also went to investigate (when in Scotland...). It ... read more

Hadrian's Wall After a necessary stop in Ambleside, near Lake Windemere, for tea and scones we headed to 'The North' and into Scotland. Just before crossing the border we checked out Hadrian's Wall. Built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian (original name he came up with!) between AD122 and 128 there are still sections running across the countryside. The wall marked the border between 'Scotland' and the Roman Empire and usefully, also allowed the Empire to introduce passports and taxes for it's 'English' citizens. After 'the Blackpool experience', Hadrian's wall was a must see for Jo, so we proceeded happily to Glasgow. Glasgow Glasgow did a good job of being grey with constant grizzle but none of the locals seemed fazed by a bit of light rain, so we hit the streets to explore. Past the main ... read more

Blackpool Making our way from the Peaks to the Lakes, we stopped via Jo's number one must-go UK destination - Blackpool. And there it was, in all it's glory... a permanent seaside amusement town, with customary promenade and pier and plenty of hotel accommodation everywhere. We're thankful that it was only a weekday and not middle of the summer holidays! And a visit to such a place wouldn't have been complete without fish & chips and sugared donuts, which we willingly obliged. Lake District We were staying on the west side of the Lakes District, away from the reportedly touristy Windermere. This meant in order to get to our new residence, we had to get our tiny little car around all the tight, single-lane roads, complete with blind-spot on almost every corner. We also had to ... read more

Our first night on our Great British Road Trip was in a little place called Ringinglow, just on the border of the Peak District National Park. We ventured off for a ramble in the rolling hills and sheep-filled valleys. It was so picturesque that Jo's camera decided that it was all too much and went flat. The next day, with fully charged camera at the ready, we went back to take some snaps. Driving through the Peak District, we were amazed by the sparse and rugged landscape, dotted with some really charming English stone villages. ... read more

Arrived safely into London after an arduous second leg of our return flight to London included several babies showing great team work in keeping the flight as silent-free as possible. Straight off the plane, we made our way to our first 'tourist destination' - the hospital. We had become slightly concerned that Jo may had developed DVT and wanted confirmation that this wasn't the case. After 5 hours and a few tests, we were told to return on Monday for a leg scan. In the meantime Brett was to take the role of nurse and administer an injection. Not being a fan of needles himself, he did the job rather well - though Jo does remain bruised from it still. Thankfully, the good news came back that Jo's little veins were doing their job well and ... read more

We thought it was time Brett got a chance at a real fish after a shameful performance off the local beaches. It was time for some local knowledge and a 4WD adventure to down the south-west coast of D'Entrecasteaux National Park. It was a good day's fishing - perfect weather and the fish were biting ... for Brett at least! He was lucky enough to bring in two good size WA Salmon. Plenty of photos attached so you will believe him when he says it was 'THIS BIG!' ... read more
