As always, pickup from last entry, Bangkok. Following our already arranged travelplans we go picked up in Bangkok airport, driven directly to a bus and took off heading south. Time for islands and the first one was Koh Phangan. Getting to that island proved a bit different that we had though. Complicated isn't the word but nor is easy. Interesting may suit it well. Basically, what we had thought to be one bus drive and a boat resulted in the main bus dropping us off somewhere with a lot of other people and handed out some colored stickers that we were supposed to put on our shirt with no more information than that. From there we were visited by a shuttle bus once i a while asking for our destination and taking small groups of people ... read more

Asia July 15th 2009

Starting the new travels in Asia, went to Hong Kong straight from a snowstorm in Christchurch and found the new climate a punch in my face. Air temperatures of 35 degrees and humidity levels around 80% was a big turnaround for me and I quickly got a very close relationship with my aircondition in the tiny hotel room I was staying at. I arrived 1 day before Lea and did my best to make something out of my day though eventually I ended up sleeping it all away. It was too much for me, I'm a wuzz... Next day, after having tried to get some breakfast that wasn't too weird and scary which I almost succeeded at, I picked up Lea at the busstop and we both agreed that the aircondition was a good friend. The ... read more

Finally arrived in Wellington where I had arranged to stay at one of my friends friends who is living just outside of town center and happened to be working at Weta Digital as an animator. He picked me up from some random spot in Welly and drove me to his apartment, though mansion would suit the size of it better. His place was huge! and he's basically living there for no other reason than because he can. Guess I would've done the same :) Anyway, he prove to be an amazing guy and a great host - not because I doubted it - and we came along very well. Only problem with living there was the temperature. For some reason central heating never really reached New Zealand and neither have insolation so living in a big ... read more

Ok. Picking up from where I left, prior to heading for a sail i Sydney. I am now a completely different place being Wellington, New Zealand so I will try my best to fill the gap inbetween. Back to Sydney where I was preparing for the sail. Everything worked out exactly as we all wanted it to so after picking up a 4th crewmember - former crew when David sailed the boat down to Sydney in the first place - the new dude, David, Mal and me headed for the boat currently located in a little marina in Sydney. After rigging it up for a bit and making sure that everything was allright we took off, went out on motor and set sail heading north out of Sydney harbour to an area called Pittwater. Sail was ... read more

Starting up where I ended, my plans for going to Cape Reinga the next day as descripted earlier, didn't quite go as planned. There had obviously been a misunderstanding on the phone when I made the booking but even though it caused some annoyance it only resulted in posponing my trip. The short story is that I ended going there 2 days later and in the mean while going out on a sunset kayak tour. THAT was something though!. We took off 12 people leaving the warf around 5 pm. and paddled around for a while to get to know the kayaks, continuing on to a winery on one of the 150 islands in The Bay of Islands (Which is what this area is called). It was an amazing island with wine stocks all around, a ... read more

So, it is finally time for a little catching up on my adventures so far even though I havent' barely started yet. Due to experiences with other peoples travel blogs and their reaction when they return home, I've decided only to write here a brief outline of my jurney stating the most important elements and digging deeper into only a few when I find it necessary, for the simple reason that I'd like to have something to tell when I get back home as well, and I won't be able to explain myself fully with only text anyway. So... starting out with the flight.. no observations apart from the food being better that I'd thought and the space between the chairs being smaller.. luckily I had 3 chairs on a row all by myself on my ... read more
