Hey Dan, I really enjoyed this even though Tara had told me about this trip in detail a couple times. My favorite part though although thoroughly grossed out was the swine licking the mans face clean. Thank you for the visuals.

Hey Hey David, what are the odds man? I'm glad to hear you ended up in a good spot. We will be in Koh chang sometime at the end of the month - I know that is in your neck of the woods. Maybe we will see you then. Good to hear from you brother.
Hi Brenda, I'm glad you enjoyed it. If you need any recommendations for Sabaidee, I would be happy to make some suggestions. Make sure you ask for it not spicy, unless you like your food very hot! We miss you!
Food travel blogs Yes, [blogger=201148] is a travelblogger. After commenting on you blog I was inspired to have goy deo lat na with a friend I hadn't seen in 40 years. We went to school and college together and he has been a missionary doctor in Gabon since then. He just happened to be in Colorado Springs so we got together for lunch. Anyway, goy deo lat na has wide rice noodles with a greens and pork in a brown sauce.
Just realized I just realized that goy deo likely means fried or crispy noodles (as kai deo is fried egg). Then I realized lat na is what I mistakenly thought was pronounced lab na, so you are describing the crispy noodles with the corn-starchy gravy that also includes kale and usually pork. We have a vendor we sometimes get this from. He specializes in two dishes, the goy deo lat na and the pad see ew, and for only 25 thb it is always a great dinner.
I'm sure it was amazing meeting people from so many different parts of the world and getting back together after a long time. I feel like we are just starting to make some of those types of friendships now. I hope you enjoyed the dinner - I will have to try the dish soon.
I grew up on noodle dishes. Next you can blog about the not so watery noodle dishes such as goy deo lat na, which I like better than the well known phad Thai. Now to go to my favorite Thai restaurant in Colorado Springs and have a noodle dish!
You need to check out Chopstick\'s blog about Chinese food. This will inspire you to write more about Thai food.
Chopsticks Chopsticks, is that a person on here? I love reading about new food to try. By the way, I have never tried goy deo lat na... I am going to have to ask to try some. What is it like?
Thanks for sharing this experience... you have recounted the origins of the Thai people accurately, and also their acceptance of foreigners and their customs. Most Thai are also a mixture of other ethnic groups. The Thai regularly invaded Burma and the Khmer empire (and vice versa) and when ever they conquored these adjacent countries they would haul off slaves who everytually intermixed with the Thai population. When I was growing up in Thailand, I was told the only way you could tell if someone was pure Thai was whether the man could grow facial hair. Thai didn't have facial hair. I'm not sure if that was true...perhaps you could ask Tom and let me know.
Very Interesting Hello Bob and Linda, it is good to hear from you again. Thank you for the input, I can tell than you are certainly keen on learning about the history of places you have traveled as I am. There is a time when I never would have written anything without putting in much, much more research into the history, but while living here I just can't seem to find the time to do so anymore. I am very interested in your comments on the facial hair and intend to find out soon. Thank you so much for your continued interest in reading my blog!
Glad you are ok! This is an amazing post! I am so happy both of you are ok! That is a pretty scary situation. I\'m glad you were shown such wonderful acts of kindness from the Thais in your city. The cards are adorable as well! Stay safe out there! Miss you
Sorry about your accident but pleased that you could experience "saving face" first hand. Your story brings back to my mind how much Thai culture was ingrained into me while I was growing up there without my knowing it.
To Thailand - Greetings from the U.S. Dan,
It's great to hear how you are doing. It all sounds so interesting, and the pictures are great. I would have liked to see you riding an elephant though!! I like the school uniforms. The waterfalls are beautiful. Well, as I'm sure you know, you missed our flooding. What a mess again! So, how much longer will you be in Thailand? Danette Singer
Hi Danette! It is very good to hear from you! We are really enjoying our time here. I actually was there in Conklin when the floods came, and then when we got here to Thailand it was flooded as well. We were nearly trapped in Bangkok by flood waters, and the school I teach at now was delayed by a month and a half because the flooding was so bad! Our term ends at the end of March, and then we have some friends coming to visit and we plan to travel to Laos and Vietnam after that. I am not sure what we will do yet, but we are having a great time. I hope the students aren't giving you too much trouble at home! Please feel free to write any time.
Very interesting place you visited. I also was disturbed by the art figures/war scenes, although they were amusingly colorful. Would love to hear more history if you learn more. Nice writing...
Thank you Diana, I'm glad you are enjoying reading through our blogs. I know that you would love the amazing temples over here, it is all very amazing and the history is very interesting. If you ever got the chance we would love to show you around Thailand.
Hi there Hi Dan and Tara, I have been reading both of your blogs are it is very interesting learning at least secondhand from someone you know of the great experiences you two have been enjoying. I love reading the stories and seeing the pictures you two post, it sometimes makes you feel as if I am right there along with the two of you. As for here in NY we finally got some real snow, about a total of 5 inches but very cold, last night it was 0 here. We are watching the football playoffs with the Giants playing the Packers in Green Bay and it is in the 4th quarter but the Giants are presently ahead with a score of 30-13. So yes the Bulldogs have been dancing, everyone is on edge here Jammie's phone keeps going off and he is yelling at the tv, nothing different about that for football. We also have a contract on our house in Binghamton for a good price, it should go through sometime in mid-February. Congratulations on your and Tara's engagement, hopefully we will be able to attend your wedding whenever that may be, Kristie's wedding is sometime in October, no set date yet, as she is living in Nebraska and trying to plan it for Binghamton. Keep up with your blogs and pictures as again I very much enjoy them. Take care Michelle and Jammie
Hi Jay and Michelle, I just woke up this morning to see that the Giants had pulled it off. What a game it must have been to watch! I'm glad to hear the good news about the house. I'm glad you have been following our blogs and that you enjoy reading. We do not update them as much as we should but it actually takes a lot longer than you would think. As for a wedding we have no plans for that yet, but we are not in a big hurry. We miss you guys a lot, please feel free to write me any time, we love to hear from you.
Dan and Tara
Great travels! Hi Dan - love to read about your adventures. It is so nice that you and Tara are getting to explore the cities around you and not work all the time. You 2 are so brave!!!! where did you get that from?
Hi Linda! I'm glad you have been following our blogs. My mom told me you said you have been reading them. It really is a lot of fun, and you don't have to be brave. I always tell everyone when I talk about Thailand, there really has never been a time when we felt unsafe. There are small precautions to be taken for sure, but you can pretty much travel around knowing that nothing all that bad will happen if your careful.
Glad you expanded on the history of the city a bit more - you told me some on the phone, but now it made more sense. Pictures have been amazing - I get to feel a little like I've been there...without the heat!
