No Maccas Hi Hannah, you and Sadha sounds as if you're having a great time there, and you know your way around. Dominic and his girlfriend Janna have just been to Marrakech, they realise why the flights were cheap - it's Ramadhan. They were famished all day until they found a Maccas. I'm sure there aren't any Maccas in Zanzibar. You make it sound wonderful, the beaches and seafood etc, I want to go there. Happy travels
Hi Hannah, Loved the sound of swimming with giant turtles! Zanzibar must be a beautiful part of the world. Sorry you didn't get to enjoy an African wedding - that would have been a great experience. Happy travels, Ivan
From Z to A Great to hear from you again - I was beginning to wonder whether you'd already left for Europe. Zanzibar sounds really nice, Hannah, I hope you've been taking loads of pics. I know you're feeling sad to be leaving but I can't wait to see you back again in Australia. Love, Dad
Wow! Hi Hannah,
Great to hear more of your adventures. Your trip to Samburu and the Turkana brings back many memories of our travels in Kenya all those years ago. A truly wonderful country!
Happy travels,
Ivan
Wow Dearest Hannah, What fantastic trips you and Sadha have just had, so many wonderful breathtaking experiences. Keep safe little one as you head off to Tanzania. lol Mum xx
Cheeky Monkeys! Hi Hannah - Been in Europe for the last two months so today I've been catching up on your blogs that I've missed. I love reading about those monkeys creeping up behind you. It's such a good idea that you're writing all this down, because it will still make great reading in years to come. This last blog has got everything - wildlife up close, warring tribes, desert heat and tribal dancing - it's a fascinating read. What a wealth of experience and information you already have about Africa. Keep writing, and learning about the real Africa. Good luck!
At last!! It was really good to hear from you, Hannah, to know you're happy and well. Good to hear you're helping these kids too and I'm glad you're getting some vet practice, although I'm sure it's very different from what you'd get here. Please don't leave it so long to let us know how and where you are. Lots of love from your (very relieved) Dad
hey hannah! hey! we miss you and kenya so much. i hope that everything is going great with you. don't lose touch tell us all the stories that we've missed. brookelynnbauer@gmail.com.
safe journeys.
Love,
brooke and alan.
ivan Well done Hannah! I've loved reading your adventures. The school sounds wonderful and I'm sure you're quite sad to leave them all. Enjoy yourself in Nairobi, and pass on my regards to David!

love you xxxx
Enjoy Dar-Es-Salaam! Love reading your blog, sounds like you'll be able to tackle anything at all, after some of your experiences over there, like having a toad in your room, or sitting through a 14-hour bus ride. You've probably heard about our wet weather over here, it's making up for the drought years all in one go. At least you're not missing any beach weather!
So good you're in Salaam Glad you had a safe trip to Dar, you finally met up with Sadha and are both enjoying a few 'luxuries'. Spoke to Amanda and she said you were both thrilled to see each other again. Please put more photos on your journal as I'm sure everyone would love to see them too. Lots of love, Dad
Hi Guzzy, hope you and Sadha have got together by now and had a great time. Love reading your blog and glad you are having such an incredible experience, looking forward to reading more. Keep well and safe and keep having fun, xxxxxxx
yay! I was totally jealous of your kittens but yesterday i arrived back to my village and found that the family we live with bought a new puppy and he is sooooooooooo cute!!! His name is Tax and all the kids are terrified of him but he is so tiny and cute but they all hit him with sticks and throw things at him, its so mean :( I think he has worms too but i don't care, i play with him and snuggle him. Awwww. Animals really do make life so much better!!!! Glad you're enjoying teaching, i can definitely understand your frustrations but hang in there, if you get through to a few of them then you're doing great!! See you in 9 days!!! xxx
busy busy LOL Hannah. It sounds incredible that you've done so many (enviable) things in the last month! I wish you all the world's luck for your teaching, but with such enthusiasm I'm sure you will overpass any difficulties.
Be careful not to stress you more than you would in Sydney!
un abrazo
your travels sound incredible.. it is all so perfect! put some pics up I want to see what it's all like. Well good luck with everything hans! Missing you heaps xoxoxoxoxoxoxox
Mamba, schmamba... World's deadliest snakes, drugged and drunken mzungus, overcrowded water crossings on old wooden craft and exciting night excursions into Niarobi... I'm sure this wasn't all included in the package tour. Glad you're still able to tell the tale. Just keep an eye out for the janjaweed, Hannah...Dad
Dominic the Mzungu Hi Hannah, I love reading your blog, I can never guess what's going to happen next! I've just read your adventures trying to get to Kalangala, to our Dominic - he was very amused to hear about his namesake. Did you ever get to go white water rafting? Good luck in Masailand!
Your Mum's just given us your blog site. It's fantastic. What an amazing experience. I went to Kenya with James too many years ago, and it was one of our favourite places - the people were so friendly! I loved the story of the baboon running off with your jacket - he must be the best dressed ape in Kenya. Keep the news coming, it's like reading Alexander McCall Smith! Cheers Ivan and Rachel
Greetings from Norfolk H., Granny Gibbs and I have just been through your Blog. You seem to be doing an awful lot. Good on you .It is all very interesting. Cousin Georgie Gibbs returns to the UK in 3 weeks and we are all looking very forwrd to catching up with her. Do you have a return date yet? Spoke to Mummy on my birthday - March 11 - and she seemed well. It was lovely to hear from her. Granny G has had Granny Gould to stay and G. Gould brought with her copies of your emails etc - so they are all up to speed. Janet has just got in from golf - we have Granny Gibbs staying with us at the moment. Mark and Charlotte are at a 21st in Lincolnshire this weekend, and Tom is still persevering with his greenkeeperscourse - he was at work for 0500 today ( Sunday) !!!

great stuff Hi Hannah
Well done, what a brilliant thing you're doing, the host family home sounds like any normal weekend at chez Thelwell, Mama Dhuta sounds like a charmer, get your own back, hide her food. As for drinking blood from the neck of a goat, I prefer my reds from the neck of a bottle.
I love the thought of a baboon walking around with your jacket on, can you imagine the other baboons, "nice bit of shmutter Charlie, where did you pick that up from" Charlie.. " just a little place I know off the side of the highway ". One doesn't imagine the serenity of an African night to be spoliled by rap music blaring out. set the bloody baboons on em I say.
Well done once again, more power to your elbow. Terry and kathy T
I'm glad too see you look enjoying that extraordinary experience. I raaly admire your courage.
Sorry about your jacket and of course about "Cruella" mama Duta, the good thing about her is the joy you'll feel when you leave her ;-)
Hugs from Spain
Hi Hannah, I've just read all your journals from beginning to now and Sadha's too! I'm so jealous, you are having such a great time and coping so well with the bad bits too. Your Mama Duta sounds awful! Very funny the baboon taking your jacket, pity you didn't get a photo of it walking off with it! Keep having fun, sorry you got sick, looking forward to the next diary entry! lots of love Gail
PS yet I knitted three rows, took me that many rows to pick up all jess's dropped stitches ...
hey everyone, I'm from Sydney, I'm 18, I finished school and the HSC a few months ago and now I'm off to Kenya for my gap year! I'll be volunteering at an orphanage in or close to Nairobi for 6 months. After my volunteer placement I'll be travelling around Kenya and Tanzania for 2 months with a friend, and then England/Europe for 1 month!... full info
