Life is an adventure. I love to travel. I have traveled most of the contintental US and I have been to several European countries.
At the moment I am in China with my husband and our dog. I am teaching English at a Chinese High School.
China is an interesting place. It's fun to be one of only 8 foreigners in a city of 300,000. We get a lot of stares and random shouts of "hello!" It's hard to order vegetarian in restaurants here because they don't consider fish and seafood "meat," so we usually eat at home.
I love my job! My students are very friendly and excited to learn American English. They generally teach British English here so I have introduced a few differences so far. Examples: "You say po-tah-to, I say po-tay-to," W.C. vs bathroom, and rubbish bin vs trash can.
We have started learning Chinese and I pretend to understand the taxi drivers who speak to me. We have also started our taiji lessons at a martial arts school.
The people here are lovely and even though we stick out like a sour thumb, there is no place I would rather be right now. In addition to taiji, I hope to pick up ping pong, caligraphy, chinese painting and an appreciation for the provincial life.
Daily I am reminded of John Lennon's famous song "Imagine."
