I am so impressed Never saw you as a mountain climber Hillary, or caravaning thru the Nullabor. 40* is real hot. It is such a contrast to Ray and my motor bike ride, 23 days around the SI. The hilight was 3 days on a ketch with 10 others in Doubtful Sound. The heavens fell and the falls sprang to life, cascades of singing white water into the black Fiord water. Then through a storm bomb, anchored but shuddering and rolling in the screaming wind, like being taken for a ride in a belching whale.
brilliant! gorgeous and beautiful Hillary, not in the slightest bored by the gorges- can't believe you and rhys been on the road for a year- sooooooooooooooo jealous and cannot wait to be grey nomadding ourselves.

Yet another spectacularly written and illustrated touring story Hilary, you should be paid for writing this travel logs. I now know what and when to visit Kakadu and your descriptions of Singapore are clear and accurate. I read your Singapore tale with a sinking heart, wondering if you were there when we were? But I think we may have missed by a few days or a week. We arrived 30 July and left 3 August. The national flags were still hanging from everyones apartment windows. And like you I loved it. We will definitely go back to Singapore and stay longer because there is so much to do there. We visited Sentosa Island via the cable car and spent an afternoon in the Botanical gardens. Both worthwhile.
Mark wouldn't let me go to the National Art Gallery or any museums because he had been saturated with them in Vietnam.
The highlights for me were Buji St and Orchard Road, a shopping addicts paradise. Was enthralled by the laser light show on the Fountain of Fortune (the worlds largest fountain) which occurs nightly in the Sun City mall. Now I'm looking out for work opportunities in Singapore. And pray tell, what work are you starting soon?
Much love xxx
Gidday Cobber Hi Hillary, Loving your blog, I work with an Aussie who is my landlord, they are from Adelaide and also enjoy the blog. Bigtime frosts here, champagne weather when it clears. The fring is in full flight, ukulele tunes and Forbidden Joe last Friday and up to see Cats in Ak on Saturday. The pub session is gong well also. Did you drive 'the road to Gundigae'? and sing the song?
Cheers for now.
Amazing visual journey that you paint, Hilary. I know I should be working but I'd much rather digest your journal and scan your photos. We have had a week of gripping frosts (-2) but stunning days, but Wayne and I are already planning our Rarotonga escape near the end of winter. Not exactly life-changing like your journey, but warm!
Cheers, and hi to Rhys also. Mr & Mrs Green

I agree, great narrative....... must be Hills. A wonderful part of the country, we spent a few months in Warnambool, an area you too have spent time from memory Rhys. Have a great follow on with the trip and keep the photos posting, good effort, be safe, always acarry a bottle of meths with you for trading.....
Awesome Great photography you two......and the narrative isn't too bad either ( just kidding) wonderful text, lots of detail and history in your travel blog. You should be getting paid for this stuff.
All the best for your travels in 2009.
Great Blog Good story telling. And good information on where you have been and what you have seen.
Envious of your travels around Australia.
Like you, I love the wine districts.
Don't forget the RSL's, social clubs, sports clubs for, usually, good food and comany. But you sure can't beat the friendly caravan parks.
Will be following your journey with interest
What an adventure - and its only just begun! You spin a really good yarn, Hilary. Thoroughly enjoy reading about your journey, and the photos are spectacular. Just the thing to enjoy on ANOTHER cloudly shower-threatening NZ day.
The Kiwis are off on their next adventure to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary! First a tour of Slovenia and Croatia then independant travel around southern Italy and Sicily. Then HIS choice of romantic settings - a road trip round Iceland. And of course no flying Kiwis trip would be complete without a sojourn in England including our favourite city - London.... full info
