Tokyo circa 2009

Tokyo was a crazy city. There I was, all of 16 years old, from a relatively quiet city in comparasion. While it is a beautiful place to visit - and it definitely should be on your list to see - I don't think that this is a place where I would like to settle down.

Anyways, back to the trip!

My high school had booked the trip through a touring website called Explorica, and they matched our group up with a wonderful Japanese tour guide, named Yukako. She started off our tour of Japan as a tour guide, but by the third day, she became the matriarch of the group, and ended up "adopting" all the girls in our group as her Canadian Daughters.

We flew Air Canada from Edmonton International Airport to the Vancouver Airport, and then I took my very first flight in a Boeing from Vancouver to Tokyo's Narita Airport. The flight from Vancouver was about 12 hours long, and when we landed, we found that we had missed an entire day! Sheesh!

We stayed at a Citadines Shinjuku, and other than the fact that there was a hot shower and a comfy bed, I don't remember much of our initial day in Japan. I passed out, in my hotel room, due to exhaustion.

The next day, we went to the Tokyo Tower, the Meiji Shrine, the Imperial Gardens and Akahibara. And we also went shopping. We did lots of shopping...
