The Heart of the Issue
Me, too! Cars are a very convenient form of transportation. However, since the time of their proliferation in the last century they have almost completely supplanted self-propulsion as the way we get anywhere except around our own homes. What a pity, because in a car we are totally insulated from the world through which we pass -- there is no experience beyond the rapidly changing visual. We cannot touch or feel the ages, as you put it. We cannot interact with the local people except the kid at the convenience store counter. Heck, we can't even experience the climate unless we do the unthinkable -- turn off the heater or a/c and roll the windows down (and open the sunroof!). I sure enjoy these blogs, you guys. Keep it up!

My image of France is shattered
Just checking in to say Hi and to say how happy I am to see the dog shit, ugly streets, miserable graffiti and see the ugly streets! NOT! But it does reduce the jealously quotient. Well, I wasn't really jealous. I'm delighted with the description of the warm friendships and bountiful meals you're enjoying. I love the picturesque without reservation and am always delighted with your capacity to turn a good phrase. Will stay tuned for more. hugs to you both, Carole & Rick

travels
Hi Myers ~ merci for the virtual trip through Nimes ~ makes me want to visit! I've just returned from the northlands -20 below zero ~ not friendly to sun worshippers, but really enjoyed family time with Ma, sis and all the great grand kids ~ keeps me grounded... but not for long. Incredibly, will be in San Diego in two sleeps and Chapala, MX soon after CA. We're gathering images during our travels that will play in our heads for many years into the future. Travel. The ultimate education:)

Keep blogging!
Your comments about Uzes are bang on! My little group of friends were VERY interested in buying there when we were on the hunt a few years ago. It is really charming. Thanks for doing the legwork on looking at Sommieres - now, it will be easy for me to find! Keep up the news - good to hear! love, Nancy
