Since we got engaged in March 2008, we have been trying to decide WHERE we would like to get married. Several months ago we finally picked Gretna Green, Scotland. We chose Gretna Green for it's history, and it's close proximity to places we both wanted to visit. I visited many sites that listed instructions on how to go about getting married in the U.K. (we are U.S. residents), and none of the sites we visited instructed us to get a marriage visa. I didn't realize it was necessary to have a visa until I submitted all of our paperwork to the wedding registry bureau in Gretna Green.
