Blog Cooperation Dear Sisters of Charity,
I contact you because we are both blogging about our responsible travels and hence we target the same audience. We could share that audience. Are you interested?
My project in a nutshell
From October 2009 - October 2010 I will travel around the world and find and support deserving causes (such as orphanages, streetkids projects, refugee camps, ngo's) by working for them, offering publicity and donating some money. I organize it primarily through couchsurfing and understand Charity Travel as a humanly rewarding way of traveling while helping the neediest people on our planet. I hope you like this idea - you are welcome to read more about it on
http://charitytravel.blogspot.com
I will globalize independent volunteering/donating by creating an example and proving it is perfectly possible to remain independent of the large bureaucracies ngo's impose - because the internet (couchsurfing, facebook) allows us to establish secure contacts. Interesting side-effects are the cultural exchanges between our different projects and the sensitization for the state of the world of the travelers themselves.
So, if this idea appeals to you - and to the readers of your blog - we could cooperate. To start with, we could simply place a link to each other's blogs to share our audience. I would place a link to your blog on my affiliates page that has a growing number of visitors, interested in responsible traveling.
Looking forward to your reply,
kind regards from Zimbabwe

wow hi david: i got the chills reading this... you are doing an amazing job and I think this experience will be imprinted in your mind and heart for many years to come. I think this trip will be life changing. we love you and think about you every day.. Love Aunt Eve, Uncle Alan and little kimster
thanks Thanks for the shout-out and props. But your eagle-eye has carried forward from rocks to spotting baseball cards to the present in snaggin' vinyl.
Don't Do the Gold Dance Yet. You know I am not one to preach on gambling and throwing your money away but you should make sure the winnning prize is not in birr. If it is you might not be that wealthy if you win. Besides like so many winners they started with nothing and ended with nothing but what a crazy journey and the money made Bogie nutty. Have fun..
ironman - knock on wood Well I hope it's because you are careful and use common sense and a hand sanitizer. Perhaps Guatemala was a test. Glad to see your compatriot is on the mend
Thank you for your comments, and for reading my blog. Just because we don’t re-use bottles in the west doesn’t mean you cant recycle the products. The streets in addis can be confusing, like in china, the streets just seem to change names randomly. Cross Churchill and the street has a different name. There is that huge shanty town that seems to border the park, mausoleum, the Sheraton hotel and the Hilton hotel. I will for sure come back to this in my wrap-up. I wonder how much of an impact western aid has been in their work ethic.
Yeah the 2005 dhs report for Ethiopia showed a large amount of obesity in addis and dire dawa. Jimma seems to be experiencing its own rapid urbanization. I think the city has changed a lot since one of our professors last taught here a couple years ago. Perhaps the university wanted us to investigate dual burden malnutrition because they feel the push. I ran into a man who was living in germany and visiting his parents back here. he was talking about how much jimma has changed.
david stephen i think the mexican's give the child a name, then the mothers sur name and then the fathers sur name. sure makes it difficult when they get a social security number and file their taxes.
Obsesity is a real problem in Addis but not sure if that is the case outside of Addis. I thought in the case of Ethiopia, the rapid urbanization effect applies mainly to Addis... where the life style is rapidly changing. All issues from high blood pressure, chloestrol level... others which were not common in Ethiopia before are now major issues. On the countryside though infectious disease remains to be the number one, two and three killer.
You are gonna be fine down there... u sound like a very positive person. About re-using, once u grow up in an environment like that it makes it very hard to let things go. Like I buy here now a bottle of milk and had to keep the bottle. Seriously my first year I moved to the west, I had one closet full of re-usables. Finally I decided to dump it. Well I am enjoying your blog as usual. Addis could be somehow confusing city having the extreme of the poor and rich. I see where ur friend is coming why people are so poor while having so much of a resource. I often wonder too. I have my own understandings of why. But I will leave the question to you to figure it out during ur stay in Ethiopia hopefully u will blog about it once done ur visit.
Stay positive and healthy
I totally agree with u animals versus human beings. Sometimes makes me feel that "save the..." had kind of chose the animals over us made me kind of jealous or at time develop of negativity towards animals. Anyways I am an Ethiopian living in the west above all that love to travel around the world. But currently my travel is on hold. Till I make it happen I read blogs and for now it does the job.
I am following and please keep us posted.
Take care
jimma we glad you are getting around. you certainly are on a great adventure. i h ave read all the evething you sent and really enjoy following you around. almost like being with you. love ya
