In the evening I went out to watch the rugby at a bar but was still in bed quite early, Saturday went quite slowly I spent the morning trying to find somwhere to buy rugby tickets from. I spent the afternoon lazing around and I met two American guys Cole and Nick who were staying at the hostel we went out in the evening for a few drinks. Sunday I went to the Sydney Football Stadium to watch the traditional Anzac day derby between the sydney roosters and the st George dragons the ... read more

Oceania April 23rd 2010

I arrived in Melbourne at around 745 in the morning with the temperature somwhere in the mid twenties, a touch warmer than the low single digits when I left Christchurch that ment I was a little warm in my two tshirts, long pants, hoodie, rain jacket and wooly hat. And the fact it took around an hour and ahalf to get my bags and clear customs after having to prove that the bag of White powder in my bag was persil and not cocaine. When I arrived at the hostel around 1 i went for a walk to find a cash machine 5 hours later I returned to the hostel still without cash and without any energy aswell. The following day I went to the MCG to watch Richmond vs Melbourne in the ARL (Aussie rules). ... read more

so i arrived in christchurch and immeadiatly got lost and so ended up having to get a taxi to the hostel which was a little out of town so a walk would have been a long one anyway. the hostel was a former prison which was only decommishioned in 1999 and two of the cells had been left untouched so it was quite interesting. it was actually addington village where i stayed not christchurch but it was only 10-15 mins on the bus into the city centre. alot of people said to me that chrischurch was like being in england. i can see why people say such things a couple of churches and a nice cathedral and a canal running thorough the city so i see ehere people get that opinion but i felt dunedin was ... read more

Oceania » New Zealand » South Island » Franz Josef April 3rd 2010

I arrived in franz Joseph in the early evening after yet another epic bus journey it had rained for virtually the whole journey so unsurprisingly when I got off the bus even though it was a short walk to where I was staying I still got soaked. After I was washed and dried it had cleared up nicely and so I took a short walk around the village and it was just a short walk there isn't much to village itself, returned to the hostel made some dinner and then had an early night. Woke up to the sound of rain outside which wasn't much of a surprise but did put a dent what I had planned to do. Anyway I braved the rain and went out and walked to the glacier, the reason everyone comes ... read more

Oceania » New Zealand » South Island » Westport March 25th 2010

Arrived in Westport mid afternoon after a bus trip which was quite scenic but at the same time annoying as it rained all the way there and that spoilt the scenery somewhat. Anyway when i arrived it was belting it down and i was drenched just walking from the bus stop to the hostel, arrived at the hostel to find that quite annoyingly i never had enough cash to cover the $20 key deposit so i had to go back out in the rain running around this gloomy little town trying to find an ATM. Got to the room and by this time i think there was only a couple of beds left but result i still managed to score a bottom bunk, im on a pretty good run of staying nice and close to the ... read more

Arrived in Nelson at around 3 in the afternoon only to find that it was a 45 minuite walk to the hostel which with the warm day that it was wasnt the most plesent of experiences. Had a walk around the part of nelson which i was staying in, i cant remember what the suburb was called but it was near to the beach. i stopped and watched a local rugby game for around 30 mins continued my walk and then headed back to the hostel where i met paul, who was a charector to say the least. Paul was 45 and a kiwi and it was obvious he had been living in the dorm room of this hostel for quite some time, he obviously off his head on something other than the beer he was ... read more

Arrived in Wellington quite late on Monday evening after the 11 hour bus journey from wellington and courtesy of the bus driver deciding to not drop of at the city centre drop off point only the outer city stop i had to walk for around 40 mins trying to find my way to the city centre and then find a hostel. arrived a the hostel and decided to just dump my bags and head out in the hope i could find a bar that still had an open kitchen and get something to eat. found a place at around 9:00 and just managed to sneak in a quick bite to eat. i got talking to a couple of guys who were both travelling alone, nips from canada and richard from belfast, stayed and had a few ... read more
