Greetings Mortals, So here I am in famous Floripa. Well that is the nickname anyway. From what I have been told I should have been here in January. The place is really beautiful. Just went swimming in a lagoon yesterday. It is always sunny here. Today we might rent a car and go check out other beaches. The ladies are absolutely stunning and my neck muscles are getting really strong from all that turning from side to side. One problem however, I am not sure if I ever met least friendly people or snobby/narrow minded.com. Once they find out you do not speak portugese it is over before it even began. Even in the nighclubs...it is beginning to remind me of Calgary except the eye candy is way and the Russ means WAYYYY better here. I ... read more

Like the title says...words cannot possibly describe what Rio is like during Carnaval. At first, I didn´t think much of Rio...just as another city with a beach. The city is overwhelming with its contrasts and the people. The first thing that I did was meet up with Hassan at his place. Next day we got our keys and the whole gang met up. Oggie, John and Hassan are the partners in crime here. The next day we went to the travel agency to get ripped off like every freaking GRINGO should. When I talked to the locals, i found out that we paid at least double for the Carnaval tickets along with a bunch of other things. But how fun is that if you don´t get raped with the prices? So the first thing we did ... read more

Antarctica » Temp February 19th 2006

Antarctic Peninsula Eh? This might be a longer email but hey....one can´t possibly skip the details. Our ship was quite a collection of oddballs but I guess that´s what makes it fun. The first day we were crossing the Beagle Channel so everything was cool. The next day, we start crossing the Drake Passage. I thought I was going to be a hero and find out if I get sea sick or not. (Mind you, that the drake passage has the roughest waters in the world). The answer came the next day, about 2 hours after breakfast. I wasn´t feeling like US$1.5 million and after I recycled my breakfast the second time, I thought: ´´Hey, maybe, just maybe it is time to see a doctor and take some pills. So that is exactly what I did. ... read more

South America » Argentina » Tierra del Fuego » Ushuaia February 6th 2006

Greetings Peeps, i decided to write one more before i set off to Antarctica. Today I will set for the last frontier in about 3 hours. I am getting very excited as I have heard som good stuff about the cruise. As for Ushuaia, well i am in a hostel and I cannot find the question mark or the apostrophe on the keyboard....and that is why you will see this shakespearian english along with no questions. Ushuaia is a small town but in a beautiful setting. I took some pictures by the harbour, however, I will not be downloading any right now cause the hostel does not have the equipment for it. I will do it in town when I get back. The town is very touristy and I have to gladly adjust to the latino ... read more

I am flying tomorrow and I still don't have all my stuff packed. It's amazing just how much crap you actually need that you would never be forced to thing of until you leave. About 60% of my backpack is filled with warm clothing to Antarctica. YES, I am a little paranoid about being cold. Other than that, it is my last day at work but it's a fairly realistic assumption to say that this day is useless in terms of productivity. My plane leaves tomorrow at 3:30pm and I still don't know where I am going to sleep in Santiago because I will have a one day layover before heading to the southern tip of Argentina, Ushuaia, to begin my Antarctican Cruise. My mom has bought so many pills and drugs that I feel like ... read more
