when?
When were you last there?

Whittier trip
Oh! the memories!!!!! I'll bet Whittier doesn't look much like the last time we were there.

diaper hunt
Well, I guess if you live in the Alaskan wilderness it's easier to hunt down a muskrat than a box of Huggies!
27th June 2009

wow
would love to visit Alaska some day! Nice pics and strange seeing you guys in sweaters. It was 90 today! Also, thanks for sharing the diaper info, good to know in case one is hard up for alternatives. :)

oops forgot to say
Do you think you ate a taro? It's sort of gray to purple? It's super starchy like a potato. But who knows. China has such a wealth of amazing produce!

zong zi balloons!
Those balloons are wonderful! I love zong zi, but I prefer them savory. Where I live, people like them sweet. Thanks for sharing this wonderful info about Dragon Boat Festival. My city, although on a big river, had NO dragon boat racing. What a shame. These cultural elements are slowly being lost.

Way to go Leah!! What an intriguing write up Linda....I almost felt like I was with you guys! xoxo Carol btw: I saw somewhere that Linda had a birthday! Happy birthday!! :-)

I agree
Unfortunately, if the ducks and chickens were in China, they probably wouldn't be living!
30th May 2009

Wow!
Boy my chickens and ducks would NOT want to live in China! It sounds like you guys are doing well. The kids and I enjoy reading your blog :) Miss you!

Park
Beautiful park - but where is the "playground equipment"?

Chinese at TGI Friday's
It was funny when we ate at Friday's, the driver seemed just as awkward with a fork as we do with chopsticks!

Longevity for Carol!
I'll look for a crane to bring you back!

family transportation
I don't know that I'll have a chance to see a cow/water buffalo or whatever in the city! But, why do we in America think we need a minivan to transport a family when they fit a family of 4 on a bicycle???????
19th May 2009

Lots of workers
I think they are always that way, there are workers everywhere. It is all much cleaner than I expected and beautifully landscaped! Groups of older ladies working on gardens all over. When you go into a store, there are clerks standing everywhere too, sometimes 4 in a group - no shortage of help - if only they spoke English!

American restaurants
The larger the city, the more foreigners and the more Western restaurants. I think even in the area where we are there is McD's, KFC, Subway and Burger King. I never eat at these at home, but think I'll have to check them out here out of curiosity. Thanks for the tadpole update!
19th May 2009

They are very hospitable
I'm sure not all Chinese would be as welcoming, but the ones we have contact with are treating us like royalty.

Chinese Katelin. lol *thumbsup* I noticed Linda in the background of one of Leah's celebrity pics. BEAUTIFUL photos. What a wonderful, awesom experience!! I'm gonna get me a crane! xoxo ~carol

Memories!
Oh, the memories all these pictures bring back. I had to laugh at your comment about how much the Chinese can fit on a bike - wait till you see what they can get on one of their cows (I can't remember if they are water buffalos). What a great weekend! You are certainly making the most of your time there.

suzhou pictures
All the streets and sidewalks look so clean! Not a bit of litter in sight. I wonder if they were swept and scrubbed for their holiday, or if they are always that way.
18th May 2009

What cute babies!
Linda and Leah we are enjoying your blog so much. You seem to be settling right in. It is amazing to me that there are so many "American" restaurants there. It also sounds like the company is treating you all like royalty! Are you going to want to come home?! The tadpoles are growing legs...but they still miss you guys :)
18th May 2009

Wow...what a wonderful adventure! And someone from Winston Salem right there. :-) Bamboo scaffolding! oh my! Thank God for TGIF... ;-) ~carol

Thanks for posting, I am really enjoying visiting China through your eyes. It sure does look like a culture shock but a very hospitable place.
