How lucky you are! Congratulations¡
That's the dream of my life. Thank you for the pictures, they are beatifull. I am reading the book Siberia, written by Colin Thubron. The book and your pictures complete my dream.
tomsk zoo i would add but animals in captivity that there is a small zoo, actually just a large room, with many reptiles and actually a raccoon in a very small cage, inhumane treatment. Tomsk is a very nice, picturesque town, but the zoo needs to be moved to a much larger facility. There they also have a large theater building. As for modern trappings, they have a movie theater whose seating is entirely composed of leather chairs, with cupholders..The war memorial should also be seen, and is very near the river's edge, so it makes a great walk in the short summer, when it is quite a beautiful city.

Misc Hiya - The photographs are absolutely fantastic and looks like your having a fantastic time. Im just so envious lol. Its a place were looking at going next year. How much weight have you lost!!!! - Soon wont beable be able to see you. Boston is still the same, but I must admit this week has been so busy. Had two deaths on one day, one foriegn national foud dead in the water near the rowing club, another found dead on gassy pad. Dont know if suspicious at the moment, post mortems been completed today. Then two got arrested for murder at Horncastle only to be released very quickly later that day because died of natural courses. Was a diabetic and alcoholic. Then on the Friday a nasty robbery at Frithville with the swan man getting a nasty beating with baseball bats and touch and go if he survives at the moment. His wife also getting a nasty beating and the two dogs. It was all go for some. I was on my way down to Kent to see friends we'd met on the cruise to turn down all this double bubble overtime, and Ian having to turn down overtime because of a double fatal. (losing nearly £3k in overtime - its only money lol). So returning to work was a nightmare. Getting sacked from one operation to do disclosure on the Frithville job. So your not missing much excitement. Know where I'd rather be!!. Spoke to Jen on Monday, she's had a lovely time in Paris and saw Toddy today looking very sauve in his uniform. Now having to call him Sgt.
Cant wait for your next installment. You take care and keep safe.
Sue-Ellen and Ian xx

St Petersburg Hi, Good to hear you're having fun and that you've finally chosen an exciting corner of the world to visit! Let me know if you need any cultural/ language tips. You did good choosing to stay with a family - that's the way to learn about the real Russia. That, and talking to people on trains, though watch out for dodgy vodka. I am currently on a 2-year career break with the intention (and hope) of travelling as much as possible. After spending 3 wonderful months travelling round Africa including a climb of Kilimanjaro last year I am about to embark on my next adventure.
May 2009 I'm planning to travel from Russia on the Trans Mongolian train to Mongolia the China before heading to Hong Kong, Nepal, India and Sri Lanks. Then to Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Borneo. I'd like to finish off with a month in Australia before back to reality. As we all know best laid plans and all that ......... full info
