Monkey business That small platform atop the meditation rock in Mihintale was scary enough without any monkey business to add to the drama! Ah if only the rookie had been savvy enough to know that getting agitated just increases the blood lust in practical jokers *evil grin* I would have been so thrilled to be gifted the many packets of M&Ms in such ingenious ways :)
Glad you are traveling and blogging again Tour, no tour, who cares as long as you have fun! Laughing at your need for ease at 49... (wait for it... 61 is coming) :) Watch those dang monkeys.... they are worthy foes.... or maybe I should say... dang rookie. Glad you have a returned trip planned to travel at your pace. I'm sure you will enjoy both trips. We still enjoy and laugh while reading your travel tales. Love your writing style. I can't believe you didn't know the guy from Alberta. Smile.
ON the road again Thanks for following along Binkleys! Sri Lanka was such a fun place to experience. Have you been? Maybe after your S African safari trip? — which will be fantastic btw. Very excited for you!
Sri Lanka Entertaining indulgence of aromas and footsteps in this ancient sub-continent island, Andrea. And leaving the reader to wonder if and when the Rookie discovered...you were the monkey leaving M & Ms lying about.
IT"S MY DREAM. I'll visit the most value land in the world. But i'm not sure about how much they cost you for visiting inside the temple. My papa has told that for 5 years ago they cost him 800 baht per one day. But nowadays, I think its not this price, right?
Day of the Dead I enjoyed the photos! Were they taken in San Jose del Cabo on the Day of the Dead? We'll be in Cabo San Lucas that day, and we'd like to experience it, but we're not sure where to go.
Day of the Dead in CSL Hola! Thanks for reading. Yes, all the pictures were taken in SJD. and Yes, I would think CSL should have some DOTD celebrations for the tourists at the resorts. As I mentioned in my blog, most families traditionally celebrate in their homes, at their church, and then go to the cemetery to give offerings if they have family buried there. In SJD, they will have a procession after church on Sunday through town. Most of the alters that you will see around town in the shopping areas are strictly to draw tourists to their shops. Some of the bars and restaurants do the same. "Real" Day of the Dead celebrations happen in towns inland that are not touristy. Have an awesome time on your vacation!
Andrea, although I had obviously noticed you - in passing (maybe a photo on the front page, or..) - on the site I had never actually read one of your blogs in its entirety. Have just read this one and intend to read all of your back catalogue (as of now I've only had time to merely scan another dozen thus far). Yes, I do know that I've only made this link because you were pro-active and this consequently drew my attention to you. However, whilst there are many blogs that we do read and enjoy, equally there are very few bloggers to whom we simply relate..... I love your stuff (and know that Als will too, when she's aware). Thank you for following us; but more importantly, thank you for you introducing yourself.. All ze best Andy.
Sun'n Guns It's always a treat to sidestep working for your writing. The world is a crazy place - we're off to Portugal for Spring Break to escape the post-snow mudfest in Colorado. Hopefully our passports will still be useful in the world by then. Crazy times. Thanks for the story, Andrea, sorry to hear a place close to your heart is struggling.
Good to see you traveling again We've missed your blogs. I would have loved to see the baja your parents saw 50 years ago or even 30. Changes are hard to embrace at time but you can't complain about the weather. Like your perspective.
Thanks! I really love it there but I'm wondering if its too far gone now. Progress can be ugly. I might need to find another happy place. Life is too short, as Tara Cloud has recently reminded me. So sad that her beautiful light is gone.
Perfection You do have a way of falling into these things. The cottage looks fantastic. We promise to keep this location just between us. Maybe you should spend some time on this island writing a mystery romance novel. Sounds like your imagination is lurking around for a torrid affair to write about. Don't forget to reread this blog and look at the photos as the snow snuggles around you in cAnAdA.
Ha! Too bad I'm not independently wealthy or I WOULD just run away and attempt to write a mystery romance novel! Oh well back to the grind, and soggy Canada.
Ahhh...the serenity Sounds sublime Andrea. Sounds like serendipity was smiling at you when you made your plans to go there. Sounds like a week was well planned indulgence. No mozzies...sounds as if you think it was too good to be true!
Cats out of the Bag Of course, I immediately looked up your discovery on the internet. Looks like you discovered a good one. Not sure I'm up for the heat right now, but if the sunsets are half as beautiful as your pictures it definitely needs to be put on the list. Don't tell anyone else until we get there!
Deal! Yes, a little hot now I would think, especially if its raining... yikes humidity hell. but I highly recommend it as a reprieve from cities like HCMC or PP. See you there! lol
Posh paradise The resort looks ever so gorgeous--easy to understand lazing around reading, swimming and eating fresh fruit brought directly to you. And like you, I'd rather see brown grass than deal with mozzies. Perfect last stop on your journey!
It was very much self indulgent but so very necessary for me to cope with my reality back home! Now I get to plan my next adventure! Hope all is well for you in Peru, cheers!
This Canadian girl's passion for travel comes from my adventurous parents. My brother and I spent most of our youth traveling all over North America in the family’s camper van, airplane, and boat - going as far west as the Hawaiian islands, as far north as Tuktoyaktuk, and as far south as Mexico doing lots of adventurous stuff...canoeing, surfing, fishing, camping, hiking, skiing, exploring, jellyfish poking...it was the best childhood ever!
That same adventurous spirit fueled my travel passion for over 30 years. I’ve been all over the shop. Now that I'm newly retired, I split my lif... full info
