Asia » India » Goa » Anjuna Beach January 28th 2010

Arriving in Anjuna had already been a little eventful and with cuts, hangover and hunger kicking-in, it was time to find ourselves a new home. Anjuna is far north and a rather backpacker destination so this was a little harder than we anticipated. Walking along the beach in midday heat with a huge packpack is exhausting, especially when you have no idea where the beach huts are as your book of shit is the most unhelpful guide a girl could have. At this point, Gail was feeling pretty rough and sent Nikki off to hunt down beds. Luckily after turning down the huts with no locks and an open window, she found a little gem called Radha Guest House run by Ganesh-camp and cute fellow. Little did we know that our time in the pretty hut ... read more

Asia » India » Goa » Colva January 28th 2010

Hi!! Feels like it's been ages since we did the last blog. We’ve actually got lots of stuff to put in this one so persevere if it gets dull… oh and we remembered the camera!! Following leaving the lovely flea pit of Agonda, we headed further north up the Goan coast and plumped for Colva. Hmmm… if only we had the Lonely Planet at this point. Colva is a local holiday spot for the Indian people from the nearby towns. This made sunbathing on the beach really uncomfortable as the stares from Indian men were relentless! This was our first taste of realizing how Gail’s white skin has given us some sort of celebrity (d list) status (we are now embracing this and are posing with locals for some pictures). Anyway, turns out the place is ... read more

Asia » India » Goa » Patnem January 7th 2010

So it all began on 28th December when we both arrived at Manchester Airport and our parents met for the first time, albeit teary, red-eyed and not overly jovial; however, it was a lovely farewell following weeks and months of stress! It took 29 hours, one car, three planes, one taxi and lots of sitting before we finally arrived in South Goa, Patnem. There’s something fabulous about arriving after all that sweaty traveling to walk into your room (Home as it is aptly named) and find it to be a cute, perfect image of everything you imagined. Relief! Instantly, as British as we are, we headed to the bar on the beach for a well-earned bottle of Goa’s finest: Kingfisher. In all honesty, we spent the first four days living, eating, ‘tanning’ in a 50 meter ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » South Yorkshire » Sheffield December 7th 2009

I'm writing this exactly three weeks before we are due to leave the familiar chilly climate of Sheffield. Just so you know, we are very excited! Lots of things are coming to an end now including jobs, gym contracts, car insurances etc and it seems a little strange realising how tied down/into things you actually are. FYI: companies do not like letting you out of said contracts early or for free! Anyway, jabs are done, flat is (almost) packed and we have 9 working days left. Wow...... read more
