I like to travel, but my husband is a self-declared "stick-in-the-mud". We did travel on our various trips to Spain, where we have lived off and on for a year or more, (though that was long ago.)
I had hardly ever gone anywhere by myself until I was over 50! But since my first trip to Mexico to view Haley's comet, I have gone on my own to Mexico, Argentina/Chile, Costa Rica. I've convinced my husband to go up the Amazon and Napo rivers, and to visit Honduras, Costa Rica, and Machu Pichu, but not China. He is a great companion once he gets going! (I went with a tour group to China, spring, 2005.)
I was born in 1932. I have a granddaughter (and son and his wife) in Cincinnati, and also am blessed to have two granddaughters, both born October 3, 2005, living with me, along with their parents.
I have survived cancer twice and have had too much surgery for arthritic joints, but I'm still moving along!
I believe in trying to make a contribution to society. Have been a literacy tutor, a volunteer at a daytime center for homeless women and children, and currently volunteer as an ombudsman for nursing-home patients.
I have worked as a Spanish teacher (elementary school) and am a retired (almost) financial planner.
I like experiencing new cultures. I enjoy some hiking (up to eight miles or so) and easy bicycling.
My home is in Oakland, California, USA
