becky! so good to hear about all your travels! i'm sitting here in my cubicle, drooling over the stories and pictures....can't wait to go to spain! thanks for all the great stories!
Fam meets Fam :) So Awesome Bex! i love it!!! you and Dallas carting the families around Italy. I'm glad your travels are coming to end don't hate me...socal needs her traveler back :)
once again, i'm laughing... jingle bells on the train, 5-legged cows, and "pigs climbing on buildings..."?!?!? wow sister...wow. please tell me you have pictures of that, please... those must have been some aggro pigs.. -E
Video games Becky, once again I am captured by your writing and can actually hear your voice saying "Really? Really, are there no problems in India" It is so fun to compare your details of the different developing nations you visit with that of Cameroon. I frequently compare walking down the street here with a video game also. A couple days ago I got bumped by one of the rude cars. Funny thing is I used to hate the honking, but now I have become so accostomed to it that I was mad at him for not honking at me to let me know that he was now moving his once parked car toward my legs while I was yelling to one of the taxi drivers where I wanted to go and how much I'd pay. One of our Junior high kids got hit by a motor cycle a couple days ago too. Be careful out there, its a dangerous world!
Itlay Hey, I'm an old friend of dallas's. I don't know if you read these but we'll find out i guess. My brother tony, also an old friend of dallas's, is in Turin, Italy and has been living there for a few months. He will be there when you guys are traveling through italy. I told him this and he was very excited. His email address is tone_41@hotmail.com . i hope you guys can get a hold of him because he has his own place there and he'd love to show you guys around. and maybe if youre real lucky, you might be able to con dallas into actually writing tony.
In awe of you I am so impressed with your writing. Its like reading an interesting book and I can't wait for the next chapter. Really, I love reading what is going on with your trip. And how brave of you to stay by yourself. I guess that would be a fear of mine; I hate doing things by myself, but you being in a completely different world by yourself is amazing. You never fail to amaze me cousin and I am so blessed to have you in my family. I can't wait to see you again and i miss you tons.
I just talked to your dad yesterday (Super Bowl Sunday) and it was great hearing from him. I bet you are so excited to see them next month and what a fun trip that will be. I am sort of jealous. =)
Anyway, I saved your blog so I could read it at work (cuz its slow around here) and I wish I had another one to read. So write soon and your pictures are terrific.
Love you tons. Ry
wow sister, the becky-isms continue: "I feel like they are pros at some sort of morbid Indian video game and it's all I can do to push A to walk straight and B to jump." i'm going to compile a book of these becky-isms for our archives. craziness, yoiu're in a totally different world. whats a rickshaw? elephants walking down the stree?!? -E
Somewhere among the sunrises, barbecued barracuda, warm blue ocean, generous Khmer, and the brutal truth, this blog post made me break the tenth commandment a little. Yes, you are blessed. Hope you keep enjoying it for a long time.
this was prob one of my favorite entries to read.
i grew across the alley from a family of cambodians and those kids and me and my siblings were best friends our whole life until my fam moved to california when i was in junior high.
they'd always make sticky rice when i went to their house because it was my favorite, and once for my birthday or christmas, i can't remember, they gave me a ball of sticky rice wrapped in foil.
i'm so glad you got to go there.
did you see anyone riding cows? that probably sounds ridiculous, but one thing i remember the kids told us when we were little was something about riding cows. but they could've been lying. haha
We'll see you soon Thailand. Okay, maybe I'm just saying that we'll see Thailand soon and I don't really know if that's a fact or not. But you never know.
I hope to talk to you soon Rebextar.
Jones/Bowie???? Jones...ah yes! But who's David Bowie??? Are you that old!
It's been great talking to you on Skye. But I still love the blogs. Keep them up. Until we meet in Italy on March 3.
Love and miss you lots Mommy
all hail David Bowie "I saw my baby crying hard as babe could cry, what could I do?" I'm not suprised you found a way to incorporate David Bowie into Cambodia.... oh how I miss you, and how you make me laugh! That would be so hard to see those children. My only frame of reference for circumstances such as that are the children selling chicle in Tijuana which I'm sure pales in comparison. I can't even handle that so I can only imagine how heartbreaking the circumstances in Cambodia must be. I love you.
HEY! hey becky,
I finally found your journal. I am so glad it looks like you are having a wonderful time!!! It sounds amazing. I was reading that you are planning on being in Italy in early march. Corie and I will be there for our travel break [ we will be in israel for the semester] around the same time! SMALL WORLD! maybe we will see you there!
Where and How Long? Hey Becky,
I don't have time to write much, but where in Cambodia are you staying and for how long?...I'd really like you to meet some people if it's possible. Sorry I never got back to you about the churches....things got really crazy towards the end of last semester and then as soon as it was over I left for Hawaii and haven't had a chance to stop and breathe until this last week. Know that I AM praying for you!!! I understand the whole not knowing how to respond deal..it's tough, but it's great that you have this blog to help you process and a traveling partner as well!
by the way... you're a really gifted writer, sister. the "beck travel blog" quotes are getting more interesting: "At one temple I expect to see Indiana Jones sneak out from behind the root of a tree that has grown through the entire stone ceiling. At another I am actually surprised not to see David Bowie dancing and singing like the Labyrinth King that we all know and love." - prayers, E
uhhh... i'm not sure what to say really, beck....at least you got revenge on tarantula-dom. your comments from the cambodians are humbling and sobering..God is growing you in ways that many of us will not be. we miss you here..school starts this week and its scary. happy trails - E
Great to hear about your trip! Hi Becky! Thanks for the postcard, so great to hear that you are doing well, I check out your blog and caught up on your trip. I am praying for your safety and for an incredible adventure for you. It sounds like the Lord is teaching you so many amazing things! I will continue to check you blog to stay updated. Blessings to you friend! - Jen
I just graduated college and I started my job last May as a firefighter for the US Forest Service...so much fun, but not my ultimate career choice. The Lord has provided the time and money for me to travel this winter and I am taking full advantage of that! I will leave November 20 and arrive home March 17, 2007. Most of the time will be spent in South East Asia, India, and Europe. I have never travelled like this before and I have absolutely no idea what to expect. It makes me a tad nervous, but I am thrilled and thankful for the opportunity. I can't wait for the unexpected, the awkward momen... full info
