Fellow traveller Hey guys its Andrew here, I was the Aussie guy you shared a taxi ride out to the Dead Cities with. I just found a piece of paper in my desk with your blog address - what a surprise after about, oh, 16 months! Just wanted to congratulate you on this fantastic description of Northern Syria. You capture the experience very well. I will use this entry to remind myself of the places I saw!!! Will have to read the other blogs now ;-) Hope you are well, drop me a line sometime. Cheers.
a Project I am doing a project and my friend desided to do India and after starting my project I have wanted to do a lot about India. Some of my friends don't even relize there is a totally nother side of the world. I would LOVE to vist all the wonderful places around the world! But Theanks for the pics and info.
Syria The photos are stunning. The waterwheels are amazing......may be a painting some day (with permission from the photographer, of course!). You seem to have the best luck in meeting up with people that make the trip so interesting, and helpful! Looking forward to the next installment. Would like to see a picture of Matthew some time.........xoxo to you both!
Heart of Gold Dear Fellas,
Thank you very much for such a beautifully honest account of a beautifully honest country.
People of Pakistan have a heart of Gold. They are unarguably one of the most hospitable and friendly nation in the world.
What you hear in the media is hyped and largely political. The troubled parts of the country are about 10% of its total geography and entail about 3% of its population. Undoubtedly there is extremism which comes from a deep sense of injustice in many spheres. But there is also hope as in recent elections i.e. October, 2008, the extremist forces were wholesomely defeated even in these troubled areas. There is a lot of hope that the country will get back on track and will be an amicable tourist haven again.
Articles such as this one are much needed to bring out the existing positives also, which otherwise do not get much attention in popular press.
Egypt COOL. Looking at the photos and reading your blog...it's just so COOL that you have actually been there. Egyptians have a bit of a bad rep for badgering tourists too much...not to mention all the bus accidents! But the topography and ruins seem as though they exist nowhere else on the planet.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the picture "huge papyrus columns"--come on, admit it- you paid that guy to be there ;)
Look forward to the next entry!
xo
Great story! Matt, you're a great writer...I loved this story! Thanks for sharing.
To add to your Truro connection, my favourite jeans are from the Margolian's department store in Truro! I'll be sure to wear them when next we meet in Vancouver. I'll be passing through Truro in Sept...perhaps I can take the Dickies to Jason's family :-)
Happy travels!
Anna
hello!! thanx for the experience, after reading Holy Cow, didn't think it could get any better!!! our life at home seems very dull by comparison!! take care
fantastic shots and story Really enjoyed the shots and stories from Pushkar (shameles and otherwise) -I know you are a great photographer, but who knew you are such a great story writer too?!!
VERY glad you're not toe jam, the shots were great! I guess the only advice is to stay away from the falafel!! Looking forward to the next batch.......xoxox Mom/Deb
Great pictures -great hike! Hi Laura- again, a lot of great pictures! Lukla looks a lot more civilized than I was there in 1986. The runway was just grass and dirt at that time. I hiked up towards Everest and flew out of Lukla. I hope I can go back some time.
Looks stunning! Wow, folks. This looks great and like you're getting good weather, unless you are high-grading the photos :-) Nice looking blog - happy trails. p.s., Are you sure you wouldn't rather be at your computers, looking at grey skies and rain out the window here in YVR? Sue
we do miss the sandpile (more than you might imagine) and, no, no turkey, however, we did connect with an amazing steak dinner before leaving Kathmandu!
can't wait to see you and the pile next summer. you will be there, right?

I envy your adventures, but don't envy your wet sheets and clothes :P get enough of that here :P
election day here....gotta go vote!
business is good! my plan is to be AREA manager by the time you return (already made district last month). business is booming! PLUS I have 2 more business builders..
Haven't heard from Monica. Tina says HI, I'm sending her a link to your blog, she'll love to check it out!
stay healthy! stay safe! keep taking photos! when are you 2 heading west?
envious If only I could magically transport myself to be there with you both! GREAT shots- there seems to be a problem with the blog though- some of them are very small when viewed in "slide show" mode...much to my dismay!! Wish I was there with you, have fun for all of us! (Easily done I'm sure)...
xoxo
