good city Hello , my name is adwoa and my family and I lived in tamale for over 17 years until we left for the u.s in the summer of 1995. We lived by victory cinema in tuffours house and we loved going to aboabo market. My mom went back to tamale about 4 years ago and she said the city had change for the better. The roads are fantastic and I hear things are going really well too and I can't wait to visit there when I come back to ghana.

Thanks I am African American. Been to Uganda 9 times and Ghana 3 times. I am trying to live as you have desired. I find being in the villages and being involved is much better than extended a hand from a distance. Please keep close to the people. It is then when the greatest results are achieved.
Thank you Alyssa for providing me with hope and encouragement one more time in our great journey together. The pictures are wonderful and the writing is better.
Hey alyssa, Great blog! I look forward to hearing all about your experiences when you get back, it sounds like you had a really good time and learned a lot.
Best wishes, Chris
Hurray!!!!! So glad your trip has been so exciting.
Cannot wait to hear some stories in person, it will take years to tell all you have seen and done.
Love from Michigan
GREAT FOR POSTURE Hey there -- I understand carrying things on your head is also good for your posture. I have carried books on my head...but never water!!! Also, does this mean now when we have no hydro at the lake you will carry the water up on your head? :)

Life Experiences Just wanted to say how much I am enjoying taking this journey with you, albeit through the comfort of an armchair - as we embrace diversity, we learn and grow in the most magical way!!!!
Cream of the Crop I'll never look at cosmetics in the same way! Thanks for showing the Shea Butter process. I found it enlightening. The kids in your photos are so cute, I could just hug them all!
You are awesome I just happened to read your online journal. How sensitively you handle the scenes and images that filled my childhood. You are a real gem and a real humanist. Nothing appear to throw you off - not the different scenes, not the dissonance that comes with feeling different, and certainly not the 'special' treatment you are wont to experience now and then. How can I lose hope in the future of humanity when people like you are around to show the way forward. I hope you don't mind my peeking in now and then into this world of yours - which used to be mine a while back. Thanks for the memory

navid's pants oy alyssa ;)
Updates are awesome. From Bosnia to Ghana, locals always need to know where the spouse or significant other is. Have you had many questions as to why you don't have a Ghanaan bf yet? Anyway, like the title says. Tell Navid to bring me back a pair of those pants. If he doesn't have room, I'll be in ON next summer at the latest ;) so you can grab me a pair. Ciao and kisses!
A journal of my time in Tamale, Northern Ghana, as I work on a four month placement with Engineers Without Borders and The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA).... full info

That's pretty accurate but I think whoever told you that the tallest buildings in Accra were five stories high was wrong
