Dear All Greetings from Bogota! The highest point of my trip so far, at 2500m, and up here it sure is nice weather! Sunny, with a bit of cloud and rain, but an average of around 15 degrees! What a treat after the sticky humidity of the Caribbean coast for all of my trip until now, and no need to ask for air conditioning in my hotel any more, but hot wáter instead. It really does feel like a different world up here compared to Colombia´s Caribbean coast, and a welcome respite. Biggest news for today´s entry is, alas, I appear to have had some problems with the memory card of my camera. It seems a virus in a Cartagenan (¿) internet café I was in has erased the software on my memory card which is ... read more

Hey Guys! Greetings from Colombia! Having a great time on my trip, apart from not a particularly great experience today which I´ll go into later, but in general absolutely amazing! And Colombia has made an excellent impression on me so far: friendly people, relaxed atmosphere, nice places to stay and good food to eat - what more could you ask for? And actually a lot more relaxed than in Venezuela, I didn´t realise that till I got here. Arrived in Colombia on Saturday late afternoon after another loooong trip from Maracaibo. I think since I last wrote, I stayed a night in Maracaibo in the north-west of Venezuela, and capital of the country´s oil industry, after leaving a great hostel in Coro with a lovely room and fantastic owners. Not a great deal to see in ... read more

Hey Guys! Greetings from Coro, in the north-west of Venezuela. I´m currently using the slowest computer I´ve seen since the 1990s, and this city seems to have had a power cut every evening since I´ve been here, but hopefully I´ll still get to complete this blog entry and upload any photos before any disasters happen… Although it seems that this computer is not accepting my camera upload, let´s hope it will by the end of this message. Wow - am having an amazing time, and since leaving Caracas, have really felt like I´m “travelling” again - seeing amazing places, staying in great hotels and enjoying the local food. Caracas really wasn´t all that, although I still can´t decide whether it actually is that bad, or whether it was just the image I built up in my ... read more

Hey Guys! Wow! I´m here, I made it to the South American continent - I can´t believe it, it just seems strange that looking out the window now I´m actually looking out on South American people, land, birds, trees.... Strange feeling, but maybe it´s just the jet-lag...! Here I am in Caracas, after a mammoth 20.5 hour door-to-door journey, which generally went well actually apart from an hour´s delay leaving Madrid. Feeling a bit jet-lagged to be honest, and a bit disoriented, but really excited about what´s gonna happen over the next 4 weeks, and really excited to be able to write about it in this new blog, which I think I´ve now got the hang of. Just spending my first 2 nights here in Caracas - I think I mentioned that it ain´t the safest ... read more

Hi Guys! This is my first attempt at a Blog, and this system all seems pretty confusing and I'm not sure how to update my status, profile etc. at this point. Maybe I'm too old, but anyway, if I get the hang of this: Wow - here I am in Hammersmith, packed and all raring to start my trip - tomorrow I head South and West, to the continent of South America for the second time! Thought I'd keep a blog this time, not only to keep a nice record of my travels, but also to let anyone out there know I'm safe as I travel (as well as hopefully regaling some exciting adventures as I go...!) And the amazing thing is that if I figure this whole thing out, I'll be able to upload pictures ... read more
