Asia » India » Tamil Nadu » Ooty January 24th 2012

Travel Period - Mar to Apr 2009 We arrived at Ooty just in the nick of time. Why? Its because on that day, it was "Save The Earth Day" and all electricity will be cut temporarily and we wouldnt have managed to check-in. Our trip from Madurai to Ooty was a bumpy one. The roads were so narrow yet the driver skillfully managed to manuvore the vehicle well. As we were reaching higher, we could glance down and see how high we were. People with fear of heights will definately shiver at the look of it. As nighttime falls, the temperature dipped further. We had a minor accident on our way up. Another vehicle was speeding behind us and hit our car, near the bumper. There was a small fight, well just verbal one as my ... read more

Asia » India » Tamil Nadu » Chennai January 24th 2012

Travel Period - Mar to Apr 2009 Chennai, Mahabalipuram & Kancheepuram This was my 2nd trip to India. A very short trip indeed. We arrived in Chennai International Airport and our pre-booked vehicle was waiting for us. We had a grand welcome from the hotel (Ambica Empire) - presenting us with garlands :) The check-in was quick and we got settled in our room. The weather was very humid and staying in an air-con room was a neccessity. We had hired a driver to bring us around for our trip. We had lunch (typical south indian Thali) and it was absolutely delicious and cheap! After that, we did the usual touristy stuffs: (1) Spencer Plaza (2) Marine Beach (super crowded) (3) MGR memorial (both my parents were fans of his movies) After this, we went for ... read more

Asia » India » Goa » Calangute August 21st 2011

Travel Period: 10 to 12 Jan 2009 From Alleppey, we took a flight to Goa. Our hotel's pick up was late and he reeked of alcohol!! It took around 30 45 mins drive to our hotel : Calangute Hotel. We passed by towns, with buildings and slowly these buildings disappeared and view of the beach were visible. Roads were very windy and narrow. The taxi pulled up in front of our hotel. We were so disappointed as the building looked so old and just in front, there was another building that was still being constructed. When we stepped in, our jaws opened in disbelief. We had practically stepped in to another world. This was a boutique hotel and it lived up to its name. Inside the hotel was really really nice. I remember when i liaised ... read more

Asia » India » Kerala » Trivandrum March 19th 2011

Travel Period: 2 Jan 2010 to 13 Jan 2010 India, the 2nd most populous country and more than a 100 languages spoken. My only knowledge of India is through movies or stories heard from my friends. I never thought that i will travel to India but i did. This trip included my mum and my sis. It was the first time for the 3 of us. 2 & 3 Jan 2010 We reached Trivandrum at about 8pm. When we stepped out of the airport, it was dark. The only lights were from the airport. We located our driver who drove us through the dark streets with only the headlight guiding him. Occasionally, we got a glimpse of some locals walking in the dark. Those who have been to India knows how the drivers are with the ... read more

Oceania » New Zealand » South Island » Christchurch November 9th 2010

Travel Period: 11 Nov 2008 to 24 Nov 2008 We took a bus from Lake Tekapo to Christchurch. Our stay in Christchurch was at Oaks. The Rooms were pretty small and we had a small kitch area. We went out for dinner and also did some sightseeing. We had dinner at Fish & Chip Shop which looked very cool as their ceiling were all covered by newspaper. even their food was wrapped in newspaper. The next day, we went to Dress Smart outlet but it was a impressive as the one in Auckland. Next was our trip to Akaroa to swim with the dolphins. That was such an exhilerating experience. We were brief in a group (about 10) and we changed into our diving suit and went on a speed boat to the middle of the ... read more

Oceania » New Zealand » South Island » Glaciers November 9th 2010

Travel Period: 11 Nov 2008 to 24 Nov 2008 We all left Queenstown with a heavy heart as we had so much of adventure over here. But our journey still continues with much more fun. The journey to Lake Tekapo was a long but scenic route. We stopped at many intervals. One of our stop was at lake Pukaki. It was breath- taking with turquoise coloured water. We reached at lake Tekapo which is a small town. We checed-in at Scenic Resort and had a balcony facing the lake. We had lunch at the near by cafe which by the way was not that great. I guess it was because the food got so cold fast as we were eating outside. Next on our agenda was Horse Riding. There was a free pick up provided to ... read more

Oceania » New Zealand » South Island » Queenstown October 16th 2010

Travel period:-11 Nov 08' to 24 Nov 08' Highlight of the day: Milford Sound Today, we went to Milford Sound. There were 2 options to reach there, the first one is to book a coach or self-drive. We chose the coach which we pre-booked when we reached Queenstown. The journey to Milford Sound takes about a few hours. it takes you through Te Anau, Fiordland National Park, pausing at the Mirror Lakes before passing through the Hollyford Valley. We then enter the Homer Tunnel, emerging above the Cleddau Valley before descending to Milford Sound. Sitting at the window seat was a ideal idea, as the bus travels, you can be lost in the beauty of the scenery. The bus passed numerous cows, sheeps, mountains, hills etc. Our first stop was at Te Anau Town where breakfast ... read more

Nov 11/12 - S'pore - Sydney - Auckland We landed in Auckland airport at 915am after a long long flight from Singapore to Auckland via Sydney. we were greeted by nice cold air and it was so refreshing.Upon arrival at Oaks on Hobson it was alrdy early evening . We walked to the sky tower to make dinner reservation for tonight but it was full so we settled for the following night. Since we had a few hours to kill, we took a very long walk to the harbour area and finally settled in one of the restaurant and had a nice dinner. After dinner, our body started to function abit slower due to jetlagged so we retired early to our apartment. Nov 13 - Auckland We woke up late and refreshed. We took a cab ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Krabi November 16th 2009

Travel Period - 13 Nov 2009 to 15 Nov 2009 Day 1 - Nov 13 (Friday) My first overseas trip with my childhood friends :) :) Our Tiger airways flight departed Singapore's Budget terminal at 8am. Immigration was very slow but that did not dampened our excitement. We managed to find our driver (pre booked with hotel). It took us about another hour to reach out resort - Ao Nang resort. Check-in was very quick and in no time, we were taking a tour of the resort. The resort was situated against the backdrop of a cliff which gave it a very rural appeal. The swimming pool was where you could relax and see the cliff. Without wasting time, we ventured out to book for our island trips which is what krabi is famous for. ... read more
