This is all a bit rushed, I really have a lot of time so I should write something. But I am paying by the minute to be here and its grating on my conscious at 1.5 KSH a minute. Ill keep this short. Rural Uganda was pretty basic. They seem to have one main road that is tar sealed then anything off that road seems to have a high likelihood of chance of being dirt, in and about Entebbe anyway, which is where this is. It was good to see what the local life is like in a small town outside of a city. Its very dirty, and quite chaotic. Hopefully the picture will say more.... read more

A quick bit of backtracked and filled in writing. Thus I am writing this from 4 days in the future, or about events 4 days in the past. Whatever view tickles your fancy. Well I had a great end to my horrible airport stay. Business class upgrade, so good, the perks, bring them on. For dinner we were served some kind of salmon and cream cheese starter followed by pan seared springbok medallions, closed by a date pudding. its strange airplane food that actually tastes good. Anyway, one thing to note about Uganda as far as initial observations go, its so much greener than the other parts of Africa I had seen till now (that really just being Zimbabwe and Johannesburg). And, Lake Victoria, it's massive! It disappears into the horizon at some places... maybe a ... read more

Finally, I have my ticket out of Johannesburg airport! When I leave I will have been here for about 50 hours. You have no idea how long 24 hours is, in this situation! Its a long time, the hours go by soooo slooow. The first overnight there were no rooms in the transfer hotel, the second night, I was lucky and there were some available at the Protea Hotel at the Jberg airport. For 196USD, 18 hours. Of course as soon as she said that my mind was processing $198... for 18 hours... $198 for the room, with a shower, oh I so wanted a shower... $198... USD...18 hours... You know what I did already don't you? I walked out mentally preparing myself for another overnighter with no real sleep on my now trusty 4 seater ... read more

Enough said, the purchase of the EeePC Laptop life saver was the highest value for money of any of my purchases. Although, technically I am in this mess not only because I was using it when I should have been boarding, but because I had it, I could take the plan as you go option, meaning I could be on it... when I should have been... yeah boarding. (Hopefully you struggled to read that :- ) Anyway, if you go traveling try and pack a small laptop, invaluable with cheaper outside world communication, especially with Skype, you potentially have access to a cheap international phone. Going overseas? get one, borrow one, steal one!.. OK maybe don't steal one, but they are good to have! Just a side note, To keep some of my sanity during my ... read more

So tired, so isolated Well the drama unfolds. I got out of Harare with that bit of needed help. Landed in Jberg and all was going well until I decided to risk going onto the internet and booking in for a Hotel in Entebbe, Uganda. Yeah, missed my flight while doing that, bad move, still hurting now. Why still hurting, well just so happened that the next flight to Entebbe was fully booked! I have burned through one novel, and am on the bigger part two, butt I have almost finished that too! Don't really have time to type much as I might need my battery and cant charge it yet, as my universal adapter doesn't fit South African plugs. Like I said if all goes well tomorrow I plan on being in the sun by ... read more

Pretty stressed out Out of all the contacts given to me to attempt to get a hold of here in Harare only one has panned out. Normally that wouldn't be a problem I guess, just the only one that responded and gave me a number to call was my good friend Larry's friend of a parents friend! I had hoped I could plan on one contact getting the ball rolling but that hasn't been the case. The one person was more a business acquaintance here in Harare. So no volunteer work here, and I am not really in the position to start something up! Right now thank you Larry for this guys number, because I have never seen dollars being burned through as fast as these few USD I have are! The damage for 1 day ... read more

In Perth Aaahh Jo and Mark, thanks for the hellos, I was on the plane thinking what the hell am I doing here and the realization I have no plan! I was please God please God make this work, we will see what happens hey ? :) I'm not sure what to make of airport security, they were checking for explosive residue or something, most of the passengers and staff were good about the whole thing. I just found it ironic all this effort into explosion checks while the real economic bomb instigated by our lawmakers and bankers ticks along unchecked. Anyway I'm going to try and upload those in the bag, out the bag pics. PS thanks to Telstra for the free internet, on this occasion.... read more

Im at the airport! D Day has come, im a little nervous as one might expect, things to note thus far, met some old people in the cafeteria, I of course complained about the banks skimming our money, which the old guy heartily agreed to. During check in it was rayther nice to be taken to the priority check in as the lines were rather long. I have even found a power point at a desk in the departure area where I am about to atempt to try and log onto crappy ol dialup. Ima try put my before and after mess into the pack pictures to see. Hmm ill add it later, final call and its not working :(... read more

This marks the date of the passing of a cultural icon. I just backdated this entry to simply acknowledge some of the more positive things accomplished by Michael Jackson, the king of pop, and simply say I think it's sad that he's dead. I would like to hope that some of his songs like 'They Don't Care About Us', 'Earth Song', 'Gone Too Soon', 'Black Or White', 'Will You Be There' and 'We're The World' must have had some sort of influence or impact on us... the listener? Possibly, hopefully prompting us towards a greater sense of social responsibility towards the object of that ancient question "and who is my neighbor"?... read more
