Where is the "like" button in this blog?
Like, like, like! To all the stories and photos, and most of all to you dear people :) PS. Lists are the killer!

Your Summary
Guys, Love the summary of the trip. I especially love the lists and I think my favourite is - not all bald men are monks - that gave me a giggle. So glad to have you all back safe and sound and cannot wait to hear about the next adventure!

Welcome home and happy return!
Welcome home! We really enjoyed keeping up with you on your adventure. Let the next adventure begin! Danielle and Rob

Truly Amazing!!
Job well done. I felt like I was living your adventures, but jealous at every turn. I aspire to be brave enough to take our son on such a trip. I'm also going to seriously consider 're-focusing'...it sounds like fun if you ask me. Thanks for sharing!!

This is NOT the Singapore I knew in the 70's for sure!
Thanks so much for preparing me for a return visit; I'll try not to gulp over everything I see if I ever get back to Singapore! Glad you could see so much in so little time, including things for the kids and getting together with friends for the grown-ups. It can't be easy to juggle everyone's needs and interests on this 4-month long journey! Bravo for every day you make so rich for each other. See you next Saturday, so looking forward to that!!

Coming close to the Close!
So pleased for you to have made these happy discoveries about Malaysia! You could have missed it altogether....but you lucky folks made the good choice for Christmas. Guess we could visit you there instead of in Africa.....it would be like going to a place we've never seen because of all the changes you describe. Those Petronas towers in KL must be truly something! Thanks to the photos we can have a preview of how much Sam and Mimi have grown in the last four months. You all look so well we can easily see that traveling agrees with the Kahns! See you very soon, enjoy the last bit in Thailand, love and hugs from Nonna & Neni

Great blog
Just wanted to say this was a fantastic blog and you really seemed to find all sorts of things to find in Penang and to get in to the spirit of the place. Great to read :) All the best for the rest of your trip, tam
15th January 2013

Malaysia is winning then?
From all your comments, it seems that you are preferring Penang to many of the other places you have visited. It will be interesting to discuss your whole trip with you in the months to come and see if you change your minds. Meanwhile we just love the photos and imagining you getting off the airplane in Geneva....soon.... to share your memories in person.

Food
Well we know from this blog that you are eating well out in Asia! Of course you make everyone hungry with each sentence. Hope you'll be able to get used to our cuisine again....

Variety of your experiences will leave rich memories!
You do so very much to make sure that the kids (and yourselves!) see different kinds of people, places, animals, countryside, culture - I'm sure it's a lot of organizing on parents' shoulders and then also taking advantage of opportunities as they present themselves. Wouldn't it be great if life could just continue like this? Well, maybe it will!

Fantastic!
What incredible experiences for all of you! Love reading about it all! xoxo

Elephants etc.
You have certainly seen Chiang Mai in a way we never did! The elephant visits look wonderful, would have done that too had it existed back when, but we had to watch them dragging teak logs around at their work place in the jungle, that was it. The Surin Elephant Roundup was our only chance to ride or see them otherwise. Wish you had more photos of hill tribe visits, did you get up into the hill area at all? How about the Karen or the Meo - there are so many different fabrics to tempt you it was perhaps better NOT to go!? So pleased that you had quality time with Khun Mai, sorry your full enjoyment of your lunch was cut short. Thank goodness you are a capable nurse and your patients recovered and soldiered on with their sightseeing duties. Looking forward to all the impressions that will come back to you when you retell some of your stories here next month. The thousands of photos must be clogging up your cameras or your USB sticks....we certainly enjoy the ones chosen for the blog entries! So grateful for the time you take to send these out to the world! Happy days in Malaysia and Happy New Year!

Waiting for the next one
I don't know the north of the country at all so I am really looking forward t chapter 2. We're enjoying a lazy couple of weeks in London and thinking of you as we wander your home town.

Smiling Thailand all right!
Isn't this the loveliest country? You see why we have talked about it so much and brought back so many things from living there? It gets under your skin very easily as this festival and the lanterns did to you up in Chiang Mai. The memories we have of the people we met and knew there are very warm and smiling so I'm sure yours will resemble ours. Thanks especially for that beautiful photo of Mimi with her flower float. Eager to read Chapter 2.

Lovely is the right word!
If this is one of your favorite places, you certainly shared it appropriately in this my favorite blog so far. We can catch your enthusiasm for LP and appreciate its beauty with these super photos. You must have thousands by now! Our grandchildren are really more than just cute, they are totally at ease in this Asian environment and stand out in their attractiveness. On the other hand, I think I'm no longer so available for trying market food....at least not all that meat or fish. I guess I could stick to noodles and rice and vegetables though. The fruits are really marvelous but I didn't see so many of them, maybe next market shot??? Loved the Thanksgiving photo with the fantastic boat and the dancing and the smiling family faces. We really miss you and can't wait to hear all over again about Laos.... in person!

Apologies, i didn't mean for my comment to come off sounding like an attack. It is just that I am a long-term resident of Hanoi and it disappoints me when people complain about the coldness of the people and the scams because that is not the sum of the place. It is a city made for children with the parks, recreation, children's festivals, lakes with swan boats etc, more so that Ho Chi Minh City or other cities in Vietnam. I have worked with children in Hanoi for two years not and I promise you it is a wonderful city for children. Perhaps you need to give it another chance. HOwever, I do see you have balanced your impressions with an overall positive comment about Vietnam. Cheers, m

It is not possible to understand Hanoi after three days. Hanoi is a thousand year old city with a rich cultural legacy. Visiting the old quarter, ethnology museum and opera house does not even begin to touch on everything Hanoi has to offer. It opens itself up to people in layers and rewards those that take time to experience and understand it. It is by far the most interesting city in Vietnam. To walk Long Bien bridge and explore the communities under it; to visit the Citadel; the surrounding villages; take walk around Tay Ho and Truc Bach lake, to discover the art, poetry and traditional music of the city... the list goes on. A trip to the Water Puppet theatre is circus for the uninformed. But thanks for your blog.

Hanoi
I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that you do not have children, Maria, nor know much about the realities of travelling with children. Ours are aged 2 and 4… This blog and this trip are about them. And with that in mind, we have had to make very different decisions from those my husband and I would be making if it were just the two of us traveling…which includes where to spend our time and for how long. I remain quite convinced that having chosen to favour rural Vietnam over an urban center such as Hanoi remains a wise decision. But thank you for your comments.

Hanoi - not your favorite I understand but not so bad either
It's good to see that there is some variety in your enthusiasms for SE Asia! I wonder why you didn't visit Hue, or maybe you did?? Anyhow, there seems to be enough in Hanoi to have attracted your attention and you're probably glad you went whatever the negative bits were. Let's say it will balance off much of the rest of Viet Nam for you, just as every country the world around has its + and its - places. Glad you are headed for more golden destinations coming up!

Prettiest place so far I think!
What stunning scenery! I'm sure you could have spent lots more time on that Junk. It looks very much like the islands in the south of Thailand, near Phuket. Don't feel bad if you don't get there this trip. Arnaud, you did à great job writing thé blog
