Hello family and frıends back home and hello fellow travellers to Turkey. This entry is going to serve two purposes... update people at home as to what has been happening in Turkey and help anyone else who may be travellıng with lots of tips and suggestions. We started in Istanbul. It is a huge cıty, a lot like New York ın that it is always alive, but does not have to be overwhelming. We took the train into the city, and locals were more than willing to help us figure out how to get around. Someone even paid for our tickets as we only had Euros. So my fırst helpful tip ıs 1. Ladies and Gentlemen, I have arrived in Germany. Frankfurt. Safe and sound. It was not easy. Last night... or two nights ago depening on the time zone you are in, at approximately midnight we realized Alex had lost his wallet. As it turned out, it was locked in our storage unit, to which we had no access until the morning, and we couldn't wait until then without missing our flight. But all was not lost. We made some calls and a very nice man turned off the alarm for us so we could access our unit in the middle of the night, and now we are here. The time zone change is messing me up. My first ever blog entry... and I mean EVER. It is one week until I leave for Europe and I don't know what I'm more excited for... going to Turkey or leaving Calgary. As it stands, we land in Frankfurt on the 16th and we're spending the day there seeing the sights and drinking the beer and then we head off for Istanbul in the morning. Followed by about a week in Istanbul, hopefully getting to see the major churches, the markets, a Turkish bath, a Turkish wedding, a Bosphorus cruise and the general mayhem that is Istanbul. From here we will hopefully be going to Cappadocia, although this is where everything becomes fuzzy and I have to say "stay tuned for updates" because everything is likely to change. ... read more
