AHoy Hey tim,
superb blog - am loving it! HAve sent it on to Mary Marshall, given you've gone all the places we travelled but are summing it all up much more eloquently than I managed!!
Hope all is well and that your safe and sound. When you heading back to NZ?? Hopefully catch up with you over xmas/ny's. Am in Taupo and planning some MTB'ing if your keen. Hope you didn't sell your bike to an unsuspecting punter!

Greetings from exotic Auckland... Hey Tim! Your blog has been wonderful procrastination away from my work... Looks like you are having a fantastic time, I'm very jealous. ( oh but Auckland can be interesting and exciting too right ? :P)
great fun Hey Traveling Tim..good to hear your time in all these places inspired a bit of writing. I also found that if you do not take the conventional tourist route of getting on a big bus with a bunch of westerners, there's much more to see and experience in countries such as Vietnam.
Hiring a local guide on your own or simply walking around the city or countryside has really enriched my trip. I hope you are well and having fun in Cambodia and Laos...

It is so lovely to open up the computer and find another entry in your blog. What an interesting time you are having. Dave is really looking forward to catching up in November. It seems that all plans are now in place. Love Mum
Familiar Thought I'd see if I found any stories like this, I am from Norway myself, and today alone I have been stopped by 3 different people asking me where I am from. When I tell them, they all have daughters/sisters/nieces who are soon going there to work, and very keen on knowing more about the country, and want me to meet this relative of theirs. So far I've just been rude and said I was too busy, and reading this that sounds like the right thing to do:)
Scams Dude, I encountered the same thing when I was in KL a few weeks ago. A Filipino man came up to me and was very interested in California since his daughter was going to school there very soon. He wanted me to speak to his wife to assure her that their daughter will be okay abroad. I was brought to their home and was asked all kinds of questions by his brother-in-law who happens to work on a cruise ship as a manager for their casino (I even saw his ID). :) Anyways, I showed no interest in gambling at all and I even showed him my Lonely Planet guidebook that even warned travellers of card scams. He seemed shocked by it and suspicious of me. So after lunch he just sent me on my way since I had no interest in gambling. I thought the whole thing was weird and then I realize it was a scam (stupid me). Thankfully, like you it only wasted a few hours and nothing bad came out of this incident.
hi hey bro, man u only been there how long and already getting scammed. definately sounds awesome. hope you are meeting heaps of people and are having a rad time. ive entered in a mountain bike race in taupo, a teams event next saturday. should be good, its only an 8 km circuit, but the race goes for 12 hours so i brought a light.. ne ways good luk bro. ps kim says hi, with a luv pat.
