Here at 6 south Hi Becky, I'm at work, just read your blog. Sounds amazing and kind-of scary! I have that book, so I can picture what you are talking about. You are a brave and adventerous woman! I miss having you next door and at work. Can't wait for you to get back! Enjoy the rest of your trip. You are in my thoughts and prayers! ~Katie :)
Hauling the firewood I think most of the wood is from the forest, so they need to chop it and then transport it from the forest. It was very common to see men carrying wood home in the afternoon in this manner.
Hauling Wood What a rich experience you are having Becky. You are seeing and experiencing things many Americans have no clue about. Your compassion realy comes through and I really enjoy reading about your experiences.
I see that photo of that guy hauling wood on his back. I assume it's firewood. Is the terrain too rough for wheelbarrows or can they not afford them?
Nice description of your Sunday at mass. I wonder if the procession had something to do with Sunday being a special holy day, the Ascention of the Lord. Here in Grayling we celebrated it with First Communion and Confirmation. The bishop visited to administer the sacraments, and afterwards at coffee and doughnuts I talked to him about your stay in Guatemala. Love you, hope your stomach is better. MOM
Hola! Hola chica como estas? I was thinking about the first time I came to the United States and knew very little English. It was frustrating at times but I had a great desire to learn. I had a bilingual dictionary with me all the time. I was fearless. I did not care how bad my pronunciation was I would say it until it came out right. People were very nice and eager to help me and correct me. If they laughed at my pronunciation I would laugh with them.
Baby next time I see you your Spanish will be better than mine. And if your pronunciation is funny with both can laugh together. I can't wait to converse with you in Spanish. Besitos y abrazos.
Becky, Hang in there-things will get better. It takes some time to become acclimated to a new situation and I'm sure that will happen for you soon. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love MOM
aloha Becky,
Its great to hear that you are getting along in guatamala. What a unique experience. I wish very much aloha for you on your travels!!!
I look forward to hearing from you in your journal.
How much of a grasp of the language did you posess prior to your trip?
Do you have much interaction with the locals... how do they respond to "the foreigner"?
lots of love,
holly
I really enjoy reading about your experiences and observations. You are very courageous to do what you are doing. What a great experience! You mention you eat red meat. What kind is it?
Guatemala - on my own Congrats on following your heart and your dream. I am dreaming of travel on my own. I will have one month to travel (the month of July) and I am considering Guatemala. I will follow your BLOG for more info. My only concern about Guatemala is the numerous entries about being robbed at gunpoint. I think that would be stressful and demoralizing (and dangerous). Therefore I would enjoy any thoughts you may have about safety for a woman traveling on her own. Thanks.
meow Hey Becka, I'm home visiting so I can write to you. Yay! I'm glad things went without a hitch during your travel. Tell me more of these wires going to the shower head... is there a heating element in it? In the words of the cat... Broooough!
Becky, so glad to hear that everything is going well and that you are acclimating OK. If you get to the village that weaves, let me know what they make and what they use for looms and fibers. Just curious. How about the cooking? What type of stove and fuel? Love you MOM
Nice description Becky, I'm so relieved that everything went well for you upon your arrival in Guatemala. Your description of the people and the transportation system is really good. I'm looking forward to hearing about your adventures and how everything is going for you. Dad told me he got a call from you but it was poor quality and quite garbled, he did get the sense that all was well and that you were doing OK. Love you MOM
Hi Becky,
So glad to read that you are there and all went well with the journey. Were there guardrails on that curvey, mountainous road? Sounds a little unnerving to me!
I'll look forward to hearing more of your adventures. I'll plan to copy them and give them to Grandma so she too can read them.
Take care!
Aunt Bonnie

I imagine everything you are talking about and everything is so pretty and interesting. I'm so glad everything is going so well for you. I pray for you and your well being. I'm so proud of you, and I admire you so much for your courage. Anyway I feel like I'm writing my own blog within yours.... hahahah. God bless you and see you soon. mua mua.
All is well My girl, I know there's alot to think about and much to do to get ready. Probably something will be left undone, but it's going to be OK. You've done all the hard work of preparing, now is the time to enjoy the journey. Love you, take care, stay in touch. MOM
