Woke up around 9am and we did our first grocery shop with the food kitty money today. We were split into 3 teams and my team consisted of me, Gabi, Alex and Cat. We were in charge of buying food for lunches and 1 dinner for the next 3 days, we ended up buying food for burritos and tacos as the other team stole our ideas for spag bol. Once we did the shop it was quite a mission to repack the trailer with all the food we just bought - took us about an hour! Trekamerica tour started at 7:30am in the lobby of the hotel. Meet the tour leader Christine and the other 11 people on my tour, there is only 1 couple of the rest of us are travelling by ourselves. I'm the only Australian which I wasn't expecting, mainly the rest of the group are from the U.K (England or Ireland), we also have one German, an American, a Danish girl and a girl from Botswana. Christine has decorated the van with American themed decorations as we are about to head to D.C to watch the 4th of July fireworks. There is a hurricane forming off the coast, pretty overcast day so didn't do too much. Went on a south beach food tour for dinner. Met a few people on the food tour and ended up having some drinks with them after the food tour. The food tour itself was pretty good, ate food I normally wouldn't order and it was all very good. Arrived in Fort Lauderdale at about 6pm and caught a cab to the hostel, there wasn't any air con in the room I was put in so I decided to walk over to ocean drive and check out some hotels... The humidity is crazy and ocean drive is packed with people. Walked into a hotel and the reception guy helped me find and book a hotel down the road called Waldorf towers. Caught a taxi back to the hostel to collect my bags and checked into waldorf towers and went straight to sleep!... read more
