A substantial breakfast A good meal is the way to go and the only decision is the hair of the dog or not. You went for the banana shake which sounds good. The mango ice cream sounds good also. A good day.
Second visit We enjoyed our second visit a lot. The first time you are taking it in for -- the second time you can absorb it. The massage could have gone either way. She could have soothed it .... Oh well, lessons learned. Moral of the story is don't fall down. ha ha.
Cambodian Massage My last blog was various tales of Chinese massage. Your experience of Cambodian massage was reaching exultation until she leaned on your injured rib. Ahhh...I guess you'll thus remember your Cambodian massage for what it could have been. By the way, we had massages daily while in Siem Reap...they were unbelievably good!
Haha. That's funny. I will definitely have to check it out! I would of had a massage everyday I was in Siem Reap too if it wasn't for my unfortunate injury.
Good to see you blogging again We once watched a football game at an Irish Pub in Phenom Phen. So your story brought back good memories. I'm always amazed when we travel and seeing people in the wrong shoes for the event. Oh well. MJ
Tonle Sap & Kompong Phluk The impact of tourism on village life...interesting you could interrupt a classroom. Was there any talk of any effect on the village of dams being built across the Mekong in Laos which were expected to affect river heights downstream such as those in Tonle Sap?
Angkor Wat I've just recently discovered your blogs and I'm enjoying them. Looking forward to more. So many temples, so little time.... well 7 days. Sunrise, sunset, sunrise.
This cross is the same as the one at the church we go to at our holiday home Roger, its the cross that St. Francis saw in a vision. I made a few replicas in clay when i was into pottery.
Thanks again for sharing your journey... and I look forward to reading about your time in Cambodia. I grew up in SE Asia where my parents were missionaries.
Oh to be a pilgrim Pilgrimage over...now to find the path to the next stage of your journey Tommy. Thank you for sharing your pilgrimage and how it affected your faith and your thoughts about life.
Capernaum My memory of Capernaum was that the Roman Emperor ordered that it be destroyed "so no stone stood upon another." Was there any mention of that in your visit? It is one of my lasting memories of my learning of early Christendom from my youth, so as you have been there I seek your response.
Jerusalem That is certainly true of the Jewish temple in Jerusalem, which the Romans destroyed in 70AD when they evicted the Jews from the Holy Land. Never heard that about Capernaum.
Your Follower Dancing Dave brought your blogs to my attention... as he knows that I am interested in pilgrimages. I walked portions of the Camino de Santiago in Spain in 2016 and the St. Olavsleden in Norway in 2017. I've read your blogs and am taken by the dramatic change from previous blogs to the ones about your pilgrimage in Israel. Not only are you addressing your deepening relationship with Jesus, rarely mentioned in previous blogs, but your writing style is very descriptive as you show great sensitivity to God's creation and how all your senses are affected. I'm sorry to read about your sister's death, and am wondering whether that was the event that changed your life in a search for God. I'm planning a pilgrimage to Rome in September 2018, and am thinking of one to Jerusalem in 2019. I will be following your blogs carefully as inspiration.
This was the day of my life. I sit silently joining you on your walk albeit vicariously in the ether and reflect on your journey...not wishing to say anything as it is best to be silent...excited for you at what is to come next.
it was like I was there with the disciples standing watch Thank you for sharing. Your vivid writing allows the reader to walk your pilgrimage with you.
Holy Land pilgrim..the one with the striped hoody Lovely blog Tommy...took me there following the course of holy places...where Jesus trod...and then ascended. Thanks for sharing.
A life of devotion What a great pic Tommy. A life of devotion framed by columns of carved stone...receiving blessing from the painting behind. Love it.
FUNNY Hola Tommy,
I am a Colombiana in New York looking forward to visiting my home town of Cali after 18 years. I am researching my city as I know that in my absence the city has changed dramatically. I came across your blog and enjoyed your stories. I just wanted to thank you for sharing your experiences. I am counting down the days until my trip to Cali
I am 41 years old. I am currently living in New York and enjoying my life as a semi-retired teacher. Although I spend a most of my time in domestic tranquility it is my aim to take one major solo trip each year. My three most recent journeys are a pilgrimage through the Holy Land, a crazy month in Cambodia, and a return to India. Life is one gloriously unpredictable mess. My travels have taken me to many different places and I hope to experience and venture out to many more.
I have filled in many of the gaps between my 2000 graduation up until today. Well apart from the five years living in... full info
