Our first stop in China was Nanning in Guangxi province, a common stop off for those travelling between Vietnam and China. We caught the night train from a station outside Hanoi after arranging a brief taxi ride through our hotel. We decided on going for a soft sleeper option as we wanted a comfortable first sleeper train journey, it ended up being very simple and pain free despite a few obvious concerns beforehand - Are we going to the right destination, is there more then one train etc? We shared our carriage with a friendly chinese guy who didn't speak a word of english but gestured politely. We had gotten comfortable in our bed seats quickly but before long we had to leave them to clear Vietnamese Immigration, swiftly followed by the Chinese. Once we were ... read more

HOI AN TO HANOI We've used one night bus previously and so we were expecting something similar for our trip from Hoi An to Hanoi, suppose we did get it. The bus was laid out more like a coach this time, in fact you could see where seat bases had been removed and replaced with leather matresses covered in a sheet. Whilst relatively comfortable Toe still wasn't able to fit properly in lengthways and promptly shoved Nat halfway off whilst catching some sleep! We have been picked up nearly an hour later than expected and their were already some fellow travellers on the bus. Each seemed to have been told a slightly altered version of an ETA for the morning in Hanoi and also no-one was really sure if we would have to change buses in ... read more

Hey everyone! Sorry for long delay in this one but finding internet is hard here sometimes!! We've arrived in China so here are the last of the blogs for Vietnam :) Arriving at around 7/7.30am, the bus conveniently dropped us very very close to our hotel and noticing the heat and how bright it was straight away, checked in at the hotel. The room we had originally was really good, they offered us 5mins into unpacking our bags another room for the same price except the room was much bigger and had two big double beds instead of one. We said no, but then needed to change rooms anyway as the TV wasn't working. TV has been a necessity in regards to the World Cup!! 3 fellow travellers had beat us to the other room, but, ... read more

Hello everyone, sorry if we are quiet on the Facebook front, despite it working very temporarily in Mui Ne it turns out most places with internet have issues accessing it at all. Turns out that the Vietnamese Government don't like it and so have very quietly blocked it through most internet providers. The journey to Dalat was not without discomfort, unexpectedly the Bus Driver only saw fit to stop the bus to stock up on cigarettes and not to let us paying customers stop to visit the loo! A seriously bumpy 5 hour journey ensued up into the mountains on a pot hole filled road - something like what we experienced on our 4x4 ride in Malaysia. It's fair to say that Natalie was rather uncomfortable for 3 and a half of those hours! Dalat seemingly ... read more

Hi everyone! We left Sihnoukville early on the 8th of June at 7am to get the 11 hour coach across to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. Packed with our self made burger cheese and bbq flavour pringle sandwiches, we got on the first coach, just a normal four hour coach journey to Phnom Penh. We had a break in very hot Phnom Penh for two hrs before the next coach to stretch our legs before continuing to Vietnam. After an hour and a half on the next bus we had to cross the river by ferry. When we got to land on the other side the coach wasn't moving, and randomly everyone started getting off the bus without explanation minus their bags and walking. We found everyone just standing around further up the hill, with the bus ... read more

Ho Chi Minh has been our home for the last couple of days and will be until after England Vs Usa! But we haven't updated you on our last stop off in Cambodia- Sihanoukville. We booked a bus ticket through the same company in Phnom Penh who took us on our killing fields tour but didn't do this until late in the day when we were certain our Visas for Vietnam were taken care of. This meant that we were stuck on the back row of the bus for four hours in between a Australian Man and a Cambodian gentleman who liked to spread out! The journey wasn't the longest we've had so it wasn't as bad as it could've been though. Jumping off of the bus in Sihanoukville we shrugged off the swarm of tuk-tuk ... read more

Hello everyone, day later writing this as Phnom Penh's internet facilities were a bit worse off compared to other places we've used in Cambodia. We're now in Sihanoukville! We rushed out of our room in Siem Reap hungover as we decided to pay one more visit to the Angkor What? bar the night before (2 Angkor Wat pitchers, I finally got my t shirt! - N) We got a pick up from our hostel to the central market, changed onto another bus then onto the actual bus heading to Phnom Penh. The coach ride was interesting enough, every bus journey in Cambodia is accompanied by loud khmer karaoke pop dvds throughout the whole journey which you learn to phase out! We had a 6hr ride to Phnom Penh, and on the aisle next to us there ... read more

Hello every one! Sorry for the delay with our last blog update. We have got into the habit of typing up our blog as we are readying to leave for our next destination and have ended up staying in Siem Reap for a little longer than expected! When we spoke to one of the girls on our tour in the Cameron Highlands she told us how she intended to stay here for 4-5 days but ended up staying 10. We originally booked 4 nights at our guesthouse and this will be our 9th and last night! Basically we now have until August 2nd to make our flight from Shanghai in China to Sydney. So we are taking things a little bit slower, at least until we arrive in Vietnam where there are rather a few more ... read more

A little less to post about this time as we've been completely relaxing since getting to Langkawi island! After a night in Georgetown, we got a lift from one of the owners at the Crystal Guesthouse for 60p each to the Ferry which was leaving at 8.15am. We got onto the ferry, to which we found an indian family had taken our seats, but only so they could sit together so we sat in two of their seats. Before the ferry departed, funnily the ferry company had a very easy job of just assigning people to seats when they boarded but they failed big time. Everyone who got on after us was finding that they had the same seat numbers as other people and the staff on the boat had to try and find them other ... read more

Day 10: Our day leaving Kuala Lumpur didn't really go to plan! The fact that there was a demolished central bus station in the centre of town caused us a load of bother trying to find a departure point to Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands. Despite it looking like it had been this way for a while, all travel information on the internet referred to Pudu Raya bus station which was inaccessible to us. However when we were searching we found one which was said to leave from KL Sentral (a transport hub to the southwest of the city centre) twice, at 8.30am and again at 1pm. So off we trekked but once we had arrived there we had immediate doubts. Our fears were confirmed when a bus driver told us these buses were only for transfer ... read more
