"A very big day" Sounds like you've got it figured out! Lots of great advice in the comments section. Kids will eat when they are hungry...and they are wise enough to always get what they need somehow, be it shoes, hats or going swimming. Delighted that its going so well! Keep up the good work! Love you all. Hurry home.
my cup runneth over... This is so fun! Not every part of parenting will be so fun, lol, but every new experience is so cool! I love that she's so curious! We're so excited to meet her one of these days! We'll have to learn a new language...we'll work on hello and goodbye for now...:)
thanks for sharing You are so well written. I feel as if I am having this adventure with you. It makes me smile. Children are so resilient and magical.
See you soon.
Embassy Date It is 8 pm Tues., 4/28. I am assuming it is 3 am 4/29 in Ethiopia...your Embassy Date. I can hardly wait to go to sleep so I can WAKE up and see if you have blogged about this meeting! Love to you all, Mom
Things we like about Tigist (so far) Your post made us both laugh, so I couldn't resist making a list of the things we like about Tigist
- loves food, like other Mannelly gourmands we know
- won't be caught eating or playing unless dressed to the feet
- won't succumb to the false choice between toys and books
- orange flowery hat trendsetter
- cool parental units
Very Exciting Technology is amazing... that we can follow the day-to-day adventures of the Mannelly family halfway around the world! I am happy for you guys. Looks like things are off to a good start.
what a day! Too funny! I've also used shoes to distract Kendalyn out of crying tantrums. Kendalyn LOVES shoes, dressing in skirts, and looking in the mirror. I forsee many fashion shows in our future! Glad to hear Tig's an eater - maybe she can give my little one some pointers.
Welcome to parenthood! I was soooo anxious to hear how your first night went...she slept and you two didn't.. . .perfect Parents!!! and she likes to be color-co!!! YEAH!!! Grandma will have fun with that! Hugs, kisses and prayers!!!! Mom
Amharic Words Here are some phonetic spellings of a few words (from the CD).
Most a's are "short"
ten-i-stoo-ling = hello
ten-i-goo-nu = good bye
woh-ha = water were-tet = milk
alga = bed
mekina = car arrow-plan = airplane
eh-baa-kow = please a-ma-saga-nalo = thank you
Ow-ul = yes eye-de-lem = no
house = bet
eck-ter-tar = excuse me
Am researching family words like Mommy, Daddy from other sources. Hope that helps. Hugs to all.
Tig is a good sleeper! Thank goodness she sleeps well! One thing you have not missed as parents is the joy of watching a young child totally SACK OUT. She looks like an unconscious snow angel in her orange dress. I'm glad you have a day to play and relax. Maybe you can try some ice cream on a spoon? That's tough to eat any other way ...
beautiful harmony Your love for Tigist and emotionally filled dance of bonding as a family is so beautiful to witness. The melody of the dance may be set at Tigist's tempo, but it is the poignant chorus of your love for Tigist that conducts the harmony. Dance on. We look forward to your safe homecoming, but until then enjoy every moment of your incredible journey.
Tigist Mannelly What a Big day for such a little girl!!! I am anxious to see how your night went. That last picture of the foster home was a heart break. Love you all, Mom
Yeah! Parents at last! Hello family of three! Tig looks like she is both curious and a sound sleeper! The "Cheerio Os" story will endure for a long time! Tig looks so small in that big bed!
...and I can't get over how great this blog idea is! Hurry home!
Now the fun begins! Congratulations! You have now entered the world of parenting - and the first concern is that they eat well! My suggestion...don't put a lot of pressure on it - when she is hungry she will eat. Putting squishy finger foods like bananas or whatever fruit she likes is a good start with the cheerios. Just don't worry to much as she will adjust eventually. She'll be chomping on your octopus hot dogs in no time! She is absolutely beautiful!!! Yippee! Susan
Congratulations! So happy for the three of you. I've found that any toddler is hard to feed and kids her size usually love to feed themselves chicken nuggets cut small, mac and cheese, and any fruit.
food for baby she may enjoy Mango from room service, scrambled eggs or poridge from the buffett, dinner rolls, good luck, it was hard finding baby friendly foods.
Happy in Seattle (can you feel it?) What a joy to see Katrinka holding this sweet little girl! I am so thrilled to see this dream of yours come true. I hope to meet Tig soon. xo Rachel
welcome to parenting! So thrilled to read all of your updates. This is incredible. So happy for you guys - all three of you. Tig is beautiful, and the pic of Katrinka holding her in the car is priceless. Thanks so much for taking the time to share.
wonderful Kids learn vary quickley at that age, it will not be long at all before she is eating and having fun with her new mom and dad. I am sure she will have your un-divided attention 24/7 enjoy and thanks for the update and pictures. we look forward to more pictures and the latest adventures.
Jan
Katrinka and I have been preparing for our Ethiopian journey to complete Tigist's adoption for nearly nine months. After all the expectation and emotional ups and downs, we are in the final weeks before we travel! This blog is as much for Tigist as it is for our family and friends...it is our first attempt at blogging, so hopefully we stick to it and document our experience well.... full info
