First Euro Trip

Visited Rome, Pompeii, Sorrento and Venice.
This was our first trip to Europe and we purchased a basic package that included our flight, hotel and a tour of the Vatican.
Some of the things I would recommend when travelling to Italy:
In Rome: (One thing to note in Rome, the people are VERY rude and not friendly at all, take public transit or walk which is great exercise! You have a death with if you want to drive in this city, traffic is crazy, it seems like you will be run over half the time but whatever they are doing it works because I haven't seen any traffic jams there)
Buy the Roma pass, the first couple of entries you get in to the places free so we picked the most expensive ones like the Colloseum
Do the hop on hop off sightseeing bus, you see alot of the main things. I would do this at the end of the trip. Its a nice way to wrap up the things you saw.
If you go to the Colloseum, there is an additional tour you can do that takes you underneath, soooo worth it.
Buy a skip the line pass from Venere.com for the Vatican, it costs more but I'm telling you, you DONT want to wait in line when its hot out and you can wait forever.
Best time to travel to Italy, May, not as busy (and Italy is very busy) and its still hot but not like in August.
Some other great places to travel that I visited: Pompeii, amazing place and if you get the chance, pay the 20 euros for the bus to take you part way up Mt Vesuvius, you can climb the rest and at the top enjoy a class of wine for just 1 euro!
Sorrento, beautiful, friendly people, the sightseeing tour was only 11 euros and took us all along the coast. The beaches were mediocre and you have to pay to use the change rooms. Prices are reasonable here as they are in Rome.
Venice, nice for a day trip, make sure you give yourself a lot of time to make your way back to the train station, I got lost a lot. Its a lovely romantic city that is worth the visit for the day but its not as bustling as Rome is and would be a bit of a bore. Maybe because its so quiet because there are no cars trying to run you down.
