Hello from Bangkok, it is now 4:30 am and I am in the airport getting ready to fly out. I got here Thursday night, a day later then planned. Can anyone guess why? One guess only. I MISSED MY FLIGHT! This has been a quick visit. One quick stop in Hong Kong and it is off to Calgary and back to North America. This is the first time I am actually on time to catch a plane (the ticket window isn't even open yet). I know from experience that I have another 2.5 hours before they close the window for the flight. Well got to go. See the guys in Calgary soon, and the rest of you soon afterwards. Off again to fly the friendly (I hope) skies, Joel ... read more

Asia » Nepal November 14th 2001

Namaste everyone, This update is going to have to be short. My plane leaves in less than two hours and I still have some last minute shopping to do. The trek was simply put incredible. Everest and all the Himalayan mountains are huge, beautiful, awe inspiring and truly wonders of the world. My lasting impressions of the Himalayans will be yak bells, pink round faces, rushing rivers and waterfalls, porters 5' tall carrying incredible loads in baskets supported by their forehead, thin air that makes every step a task and the incredible beauty and presence of the mountains that literally are above the clouds. I was only able to upload a few pictures. I will upload the rest when I get to Bangkok. I did something pretty wild yesterday, but will leave the story and the ... read more

Hello everyone, I am writing you from atop the world in Katmandu, Nepal. I just arrived here today and am now uploading new pics from India. India was an experience I have to say. I covered Bombay, Delhi, Rishikesh, and Agra in the last six days. I have been fortunate enough over the past week to meet up with some great people. I had originally planned to leave Bombay on Sunday for Agra. However, I couldn't get a ticket on the express train so I decided to stay an extra day. This allowed me to meet Krishna, a guy who had been living in Bombay for the last eight years. He brought me around Bombay and showed me the sites for the next day and a half. I got a chance to see the good, bad ... read more

Salaam, from the sunny coastline of Alexandria on the Mediterranean Coast. It has been a busy couple of weeks since I wrote last. Since then I have visited the Valley of the Kings; rode donkeys, camels and horses (got thrown off one!); sailed down the Nile; walked up and down Mt. Sinai; relaxed on the beaches of the Red Sea; snorkeled over coral; did a 45m reverse bungy jump in Sham el Sheikh in Sinai; went to an Oasis 160 miles in the western desert and am now relaxing in Alexandria for the next two days before I take a bus back to Cairo Saturday morning for my flight to Bombay. I will be in India for the next 7 days before I fly to Katmandu. I am not sure when I will write next, because ... read more

Hi everyone, quick note to say there are new pics of the pyramids at Giza. No words can describe the pyramids and my few pictures do not do them justice. Can't say much because I am running a little late to catch the train to Aswan. I will be back in Cairo a week from tomorrow and will try e-mail new pics. Take care, Joel... read more

Salaam Ala Coomb, (for the non-Arabs, Hello) from the extremely hot jewel of the Nile - Cairo. I am certainly not in Kansas anymore, Toto. I arrived in Egypt Thursday night at 11:30 pm. I guess there is not a lot of people wanting to fly these days, especially to the Middle East. I flew on a Boeing 777, that usually carries 250-300 people. There was maybe 20 passengers on board. I wasn't sure what to expect when I got off the plane in Cairo, other than it was going to be hot. Sure enough it was hot (low to mid 20's at midnight). Lots of guards toting sub machine guns and locals wanting you to buy something or use their taxi. For you people who think I drive alittle fast or maybe alittle extreme at ... read more

Ahoy mates, just arrived in Lisbon last night. I guess the only thing I can say is INCREDIBLE! Sailing the high seas was nuts. 240 nautical miles from land in the Bay of Biscay behind the helm in a gail force 7 wind with waves crashing over the sides at 12:00 at night. Completely insane. After 5 days at sea, there is nothing like sailing along the Spanish and Portugese coast visiting ports. Vigo, Spain was beautiful, (especially the beach the captain anchored us off of - NUDE!); Porto, Portugal was filled with port tasting at the 30+ port houses. I just finished taking a walk around the waterfront in Lisbon. The weather has been exceptional and it is about 28 degrees right now. i have a bunch of pictures to e-mail, but I can't from ... read more
