Wishing you well! I'm happy to hear you're keeping Betty a bit longer. I was sad that you were getting rid of her. As a home birth midwife I've always felt like my car was my giant suitcase...it's funny to hear you call it that too. Safe travels during the arctic Blast!

Wild ride! 🫣😵💫 16 hours straight. Wow! I'm a bit of a beast when it comes to driving, but that sounds horrible! My joints ache just thinking about it. Here's hoping for clear skies and good weather for the remainder of your trip. Here's hoping I get to see you! ❤️
Westward ho! I've thoroughly enjoyed reading about your journey and am keeping my fingers crossed that you get your place.
but DAMN!
Moving before the snow flies? That's fast! I looked it up. Usual first Montana snow is October, but last year: https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/29/us/september-snow-rockies-sunday-wxc/index.html
If anyone can pull it together that fast, you two will.
I'm excited because I've always wanted to explore that part of the country and now I have the best reason to plan a trip.
Have a wonderful time at the beach!
Sad. Sounds as if it may not have worked out. The photos were beautiful! I hope that's not the cause of your sadness.
Prarie dog park. Are they related to woodchucks? (The bane of my existence this summer.) I bet they're cousins.
Looking forward to the long story, if/when you're able, and wishing you well too. <3
If anyone can grow vegetables in a solar greenhouse... Sally Erickson can. And will! I wonder if you'd raise cattle, too?
I accept your invitation for a visit when you find your place. I've never spent time out west (except for a few days in New Mexico) and I've always yearned to visit! Wyoming always appealed to me since I did a "report" on Wyoming when I was in 4th grade: least populated state, Yellowstone, cowboys, women got the right to vote in 1800's! In the past few years, I feel as if I'd fit in better politically out West than I do here in the East. Strong, independent, honest gutsy women appeal! I bet they birth well. I need to check on those birth stats. I wonder if many women have home births?
I succumb to restaurant food far too often because I'm tired. And, I live alone. It's just easier to eat out. Not healthier, of course...unless one goes to a farm to table place, which is too expensive to do on a regular basis.
Looking forward to hearing more!
I'm not complaining! ...but the guy who has been building my chicken coop, which was supposed to be done last week (at the latest) went into rehab Friday. The coop's not done. The chicks are crammed into the (oh-so-tiny-looking-now-that-they're-chickens-not-chicks) dog cage brooder in my back hallway...which stinks to high heaven, even though I clean it every morning. So, Linnea and I got another dog cage, which will be useful in the future for sick chickens and the like. They're unhappy about being divided into separate cages but seem to appreciate double the living space. We're hoping we can find a way to join the cages together later today. And somehow, though it shouldn't make a difference, it smells better back there. Now I'm off to plant a few more fall crops and deal with mountains of tomatoes and squash. Have I mentioned how inspired I've been by you and Sally? (I'm sure I have ;) You two live life so fully! I admire your courage and willingness to grow. I love how you follow your dreams. You two are partly responsible for my growing homestead...I've watched you take on so many projects with a can-do attitude. I decided to dive in, and despite the challenges (there have been many), I'm loving it! I'm delighted you're writing about your trip and can't wait to hear more! xoxo
Your posts made me think I should write blogs about my house searchings (I make up words as go...), too. Today we went with the girls and Leo to see a land with a house, a church and a lake on it. As it turned out, behind the church it was a cemetery, and in the lake the girls saw some alligators/ crocodiles.... The buildings were from the 60s, no AC ever.... Humidity 200%.... one would need rain forest adapted genetics to deal with the fact that even the mints left in the pulpit were transforming into some kind of slime from the combination of mold and wetness...I thought we could live in the church ( the cross would come down first thing, and the pews would be good for firewood. This is what you get after 2 years of churchy high school and 6 years of seminary education. Good thing I do not have student loan to pay back... By the way, Sally, I am curious: have you heard of ecclesiogenic neurosis?), and rent the house... Silly me... But, the cemetery gave me the green burial idea.... as a "stay at home business"- to use Sally's words...I remembered, that I have an affinity to graveyards... and living is about remembering... and from the right position, crocodiles are easier to hunt than deer... and the big fat crocodile tail makes a good soup... are crocodile eggs edible? If yes, who needs to raise chicken....? The next house we are going to see will be a whirling castle standing on a duck leg, to remind me that I have severe motion sickness... I hope the two of you feel less lonely now....
That bed.... When you come back, I will have to have a bed for my car. Except it has to be a bunk bed... The kids will sleep below, because I do not like closed spaces. ....Or, they can have a whole sleepover in the car, and I keep the house for myself....You have to post a picture about making coffee...
