Monks, Elephants and Scooters in Northern Thailand Once Raleigh was over we went to Thailand. A cultural shock again, even after Borneo. The people are so calm and restrained and everywhere is beautifully and ornately decorated. I flew with Kate and Hannah (two friends from Raleigh) to Chaing Mai, Northern Thailand. We visited temples, chatted with monks, and bought new clothes as most of our Raleigh gear was rather muddy and worn. My best day in Chiang Mai was a day tour we rode elephants in the hills of Thailand and went white water rafting. It was so much fun.
