Spesh!!!!!

I'm 24 years old, male from Darwin in the north of Australia.

I am heading off to South America solo for 7 weeks from November 22. I have my return flights to Santiago, Chile booked and flights to Peru. I have also booked the Inca trail and the rest I leave to fate... I plan on meeting up with members of the couch surfer community to meet local people and get to know the real Peru, Argentina and Chile, not just the Lonely Planets cash for comment locations....!

I will try to keep a blog about every couple of weeks (so at least about 4) but we'll see how it goes!?!?! Through the stories of others I have ideas of what I'd like to see but have refused to make too many plans!

The trip is off the cuff. It was booked on a whim and there has been no looking back. Although only 7 weeks, I hope it is filled with excitement, relaxation and a whole bunch of random stories to tell mates when I get home.

Until my first blog in late November, Hasta Luego!

So I wrote my last entry not too long ago. In the last entry, I was heading to Copacabana the following day. I made sure on this holiday that everything was flexible as I wanted to be able to change plans at my will... and so I did. I write this blog as I too read the warning in Lonely Planet about night buses in Peru regularly going off the side of the road but payed it off as "it would never happened to me." So I want to reinforce the warning, and highlight the lack of help and care from local people on the side of the road (the locals at the hospital and airports were far more accomodating... thanks). It started out with a lot of talk about all border crossings to Bolivia being ... read more

Hola! Since my last blog which was only a week ago (I think) I have had an amazing week on the Inca trail and Machu Picchu. First though, a few facts about booking the inca trail. Around this time of year, you can turn up to Cusco and book onto a trek a couple of days in advance (if not the day before like a few people in my group). This way you pay significantly less for your tour. And it does not matter how much you pay, the service in general is the same across the board, excellent! I was relatively lucky, I booked in advance and paid $US340. Others paid up to 400 even $US580. Booking the day before people paid $US220 and got exactly the same service. So if your coming around this ... read more

Hola!!!! I am in the incredible city of Cusco as I write my first entry and I head off on my Inka trail (hopefully) tomorrow! But I guess I should talk from the start of my week (yes, its been only one week but its been insane!) I flew into Santiago last Sunday after getting I would think about 2 hours sleep on the whole flight from Sydney. I couldnt believe the lady next to me was flying all this way for just one week of holiday! A little too far for one week in my opinion... So I got to the airport and jumped in the first taxi (ok, so I knew I was going to get ripped off on my first south american taxi ride but, with 2 hours sleep under my belt, i ... read more
