Firstly, we've uploaded Cairo piccies so you can go back and have a look. We took the overnight train to Luxor (approx 9 hrs in a Business Class style seat - service far from Bus Class though!). Our tour guide said that Luxor traffic is very structured and not crazy like Cairo. Well, it may be better but we've still seen one accident and many crazy drivers ignoring traffic lights. We went to Luxor Temple which was totally amazing. It was only a short walk from our hotel - Tutotel - via the banks of the Nile and about a thousand touts saying G'day mate and offering us Felluca rides. The temple is in really good condition. In the afternoon, took a horse and carriage ride to the Karnak Temple which was built for the sun ... read more

We're in Cairo and what an experience! Arrived at the airport and it was utter madness. I think we we're spoiled in KL and Dubai. Went to the toilet within 20m of getting off the plane and was hassled for a tip. I probably could have given her a couple of Malaysian Ringitts - don't think it would have done her much good though! Eventually made it through customs and to the baggage area. Was approached by a lady (naturally who we thought was trying to scam us but was wonderful) and she hooked us up with a couple of Aussie girls from Melbourne who were on our flight, going to the same hotel as us and are on our tour. Amazing! So we all shared a cab to the hotel. And what an experience that ... read more

Well, we arrived in Dubai at about 4am and it was already 38 degrees. We met up with our friends who live here (from Hobart) and chatted about life in Dubai. One strange thing is the water in the hot tap is cold and the cold tap is hot. This is because in summer here, the water tank on the roof warms up so much, they don't actually heat the water. As the hot water cylinder is insulated, it becomes the cold water. Makes sense I guess. After a nap, we headed to Mall of the Emirates shopping centre to do what everyone does when they arrive in the desert - hit the ski slopes of course! Basically, its a massive indoor ski run the size of 4 football fields. While its minus 2 degrees inside ... read more

Well we finally finished up at work, cleaned the house and got ourselves to the airport. I've (Scott) fully recovered from my week and a half of the flu but unfortunately over the last few days Joy has not been feeling real good. Dosed up on drugs (thanks MK!) she got on the flight but it was not a very enjoyable experience for Joy as the climb and descent gave her a terrible sinus headache and did very weird things to her hearing, but we did manage to get a few hours sleep in between and arrived in KL at 5:30am. First impressions of KL are of an extremely modern city but it's still very much an asian city at the same time. Yesterday we went to the Petronas towers which are the 2nd and 3rd ... read more
