Us and the Great Pyramid
We're in Cairo and what an experience! Arrived at the airport and it was utter madness. I think we we're spoiled in KL and Dubai. Went to the toilet within 20m of getting off the plane and was hassled for a tip. I probably could have given her a couple of Malaysian Ringitts - don't think it would have done her much good though!

Eventually made it through customs and to the baggage area. Was approached by a lady (naturally who we thought was trying to scam us but was wonderful) and she hooked us up with a couple of Aussie girls from Melbourne who were on our flight, going to the same hotel as us and are on our tour. Amazing! So we all shared a cab to the hotel.

And what an experience that was. People warn you Cairo is crazy but you just don't appreciate it until you get here. Makes crossing the road in Thailand look like a stroll down the Launceston mall on a wintery Tuesday night! Cairo has the same population as Australia but in one city. We made it to the hotel safely after rounding way too many corners at 100km+ per

hour. The hotel is about about a 1 star Aussie but probably 3 1/2 star Egypt. Its next to the zoo so the outlook from the restaurant is over trees. They even have Jaccaranda's here.

We went to the Pyramids today and what can we say. Totally amazing. We'll upload some pictures in the next few days so watch this space. It wasn't even that crowded. We rode a camel (very cliche I know, but when in Rome...) and went into the centre of one of the pyramids. Being mildly claustraphobic, this was quite an ordeal for me (Joy) but we made it in safe and sound. It was amazing - very hot though. The outside temp was about 30 but inside would have been closer to 50 (and we know what that feels like as we've just been in Dubai for 4 days).

Better get going, about out of time. On a o/nite train to Luxor tonight. Will be going to the valley of the kings tomorrow. Can't wait. Bye for now. S&J
