Day 3: New Years Eve! Thursday, December 31, 2009 Note: Listening to Evita soundtrack as I am writing this, so it's bound to be a great (and long) entry! New Years Eve in Buenos Aires: Not celebrated until well after midnight..... But let's start in the morning: We had to wake up early (again) to check out of the hostel. Kristen's dad had used his points to get us a room at the Marriott Plaza Hotel on Florida Street, next to the Plaza San Martín, for the next two nights (jackpot!). So we dragged ourselves out of bed, shoved everything into our backpacks and grabbed a cab up to Florida St. The hotel was quite fancy, and we looked a little out of place with our huge backpacks on, but we deliberately put on dresses that ... read more

We got ready, ... read more

Day 1: Arrival in Buenos Aires! December 29, 2009 After an overnight flight from Miami (and a great night's sleep thanks to some Unisom and pre-flight Malbec), Kristen and I arrived in Buenos Aires at 10 AM on Tuesday, Dec. 29th. After getting the coveted stamps on our passports and paying the brand-new "Reciprocal Fee," we jumped on a bus to our hostel. Side note- this "Reciprocal Fee" is Argentina deciding to charge entry fees to Americans, Canadians, and Australians, "reciprocal" because we currently charge Argentinians a fee to enter our country- and this brand new fee of $131 just happened to go into effect the day we left- of course! We arrived at our hostel, Terrazas Estoril (terrazas = terraces), which was hands-down the best hostel I've ever stayed in. It had rooftop terraces where ... read more
