We miss you We miss you at school. It's busy and people are managing along, but you're not at your desk. I'm not either since free desks are always at a premium, as you know. Hope you're having a great time - sounds like you are. Fred sends his groeten.
Grass words Sally - you are a great blogger - and the grass words are huan ying meaning Welcome. Btw, you got a far better rate of exchange than expected. Looking forward to the next chapters. Keith

comment no 1 Well the first comment is from me, and while I'm writing this I'm having a "borrel" on your health and happiness and a safe trip. I'll take one every evening to keep our tradition alive just by myself. Your story and photo's are really nice and hopefully you will write a lot more as well as a lot of pictures. With the capacity of your SD card I expect at least 750 pictures. So do your best.
It was very nice to have chatted with you this afternoon. Even though you where very tired you sure looked great.
So with these couple of lines I will end my first comment. There will follow more. Have a great time over there!
XOXOXOXO, R
the first comment The start of your travelblog looks very prommissing. Looking forward of what's coming in the next 2 1/2 weeks. Although I'll miss your great company. With about 800 pictures to go on your camera I expect at least 750 photo's. So do your best and have a great trip with lots of new impressions and good luck lecturing the Chinese students.
XOXOXOXO,
R.

China? Me too! SallyPep!
I went to China with friends in 2005. I have lots of tips for ways to enjoy your trip. Like:
1. Make sure you bring some snacks with you that you know you love because there will be days when you just really need a break from local food. Even though you think that one of the fun things will be eating the local food...I longed for Ritz crackers with peanut butter. You never know what you will crave when you are far from home and even the candy bars are different. I didn't see any western food except for one pizza place and it wasn't like any pizza we had ever had.
2. Check the hotels as well. Are you booked in Chinese style or Western style hotels? The Chinese style hotels have beds that are so hard it was like sleeping on the floor. Honestly. I don't just mean firm -- I mean like sleeping on the floor. If I had it to do over again I would leave half my clothes at home and bring a foam mattress pad. I mean it.
3. Other stuff: You need an appointment to view Mao's tomb. The Forbidden City is freakin amazing. The summer and winter palaces are incredibly beautiful. If you have tour guides they will inevitably bring you to factories where they want you to shop. Jade, pearls, cloissonne (I don't know how to spell it but I do know how to buy it), small versions of the terra cotta warriors in Xi'an. And silk. Go to the silk factory and they show you how they get the thread out of the pods. It was cool.
4. I hope you are going to Guilin. That was my fave part of the trip. So beautiful.
Have a great time! You can find a link to some pictures of my China trip at my blog.
Love,
Corinna Makris
