Thursday -Friday October 15 & 16 2009 Sydney I am combining Thursday and Friday's blog because I have been quite lazy and enjoying the amazing scenery while drinking cappuccinos and eating wonderful shortbread cookies. I headed downstairs this morning to talk with the Concierge and I am quite excited for what we have in store. You see beginning Saturday, Rich will be off until we depart on Wednesday October 21st. This part of the trip is in celebration of our 30th Wedding Anniversary which is October 20th. So first on our list for Saturday is a Harbor Bridge Climb, now this is not for the faint of heart but we need to do something to commemorate this great day. Basically you are dressed in special clothing and tethered to the side of the narrow walk way ... read more

Wednesday October 14, 2009 Sydney Well to put it mildly Italo may have my father's name but he is not a very good cook! Rich and I spent most of the evening fighting over the Rolaid bottle. I am not quite sure if the food was too spicy or if our digestive systems have become accustomed to eating just rice and chicken. Poor Rich had to be up for a 7am meeting at least I could finally get some sleep after the heartburn ended. So much for making that great effort to finally have breakfast. I have not even seen the breakfast buffet which Rich tells me is wonderful. Maybe tomorrow. I was determined to get on the Big Red Bus today and see some of the sights of Sydney beyond where I have been walking. ... read more

Sydney.........Monday October 12th and Tuesday October 13th Since most of Monday was spent recuperating from Sunday I will combine my blog for the last two days. The time difference from Singapore to Australia is three hours later therefore I awoke at 11am on Monday morning which would have been 8am Singaporean time. We are now 15 hours ahead of you folks on EST...amazing. Hard to know when I might reach family or friends on line. Once I awoke on Monday I went up to the Executive lounge to have tea and crumpets while enjoying the amazing views out on the harbor. I caught up on facebook, emails, blogging and much needed rest. I think I could get used to this life! Rich arrived home around 6:30pm and we had the night to ourselves. We went up ... read more

What day is it? Not so sure ? October 12, 2009 Let's start today off with a riddle: (This is for you Tom we know you love riddles) If your travel agent has you booked in a hotel not to leave until Saturday October 10th and your airline tickets say Saturday October 10th.....leaving at 12:25 am. Do you go to the airport on: A. Friday night B. Saturday night If you chose (A) Friday night go to the head of the class and travel on to Sydney. If you chose (B) Saturday night pull up a piece of rug because you are sleeping in the Singapore Airport!!!! Rich and I count ourselves (OK, we maybe a little presumptuous) at least near the top of the bell curve when it comes to intelligence. We both read the ... read more

Day Eight October 9, 2009 I awoke this morning very excited about my day. You see I was going to make a new friend and one of the joys of my life is meeting new and interesting people. Before I left for Singapore a friend of mine from High School that I had recently reconnected with via facebook had told me she had a friend that had moved to Singapore about a year and half ago that was from our home town in Massachusetts. I had emailed Heidi from Atlanta and she had given me some great tips on things to do in Singapore and suggested we get together when I was in Singapore and today was the day she invited me to her home in the “burbs” of Singapore for lunch. I would take a ... read more

Day 7 Thursday October 8, 2009 I awoke around 8:00 this morning and was excited to catch Talia on line so that we could at least chat through gmail since my skype is having some issues. Richard's is working fine so if anyone wants to reach us the weekend will work well. I ordered my usual light breakfast and planned my day. I still had not seen the Merlion which is the symbol of Singapore. Half lion / Half Fish. I planned out a walk for the day to take in the Sculpture walk the Merlion and to end at the Esplanade to finally sample the Chocolate Bar. The walk was about 2.5 miles one way but since I have been walking every day I figured 5 miles for the day was doable. As I was ... read more

Day 6 Wednesday October 7, 2009 After a good nights sleep I awoke and ordered coffee and French toast with a side of watermelon. I guess they had to go to France to get the bread because it cost $42 or about $30 US. Singapore is not for the faint of heart. I got myself ready for a big day. I was planning to head to the Botanical Gardens and the temperature was already reaching in the high 80's with a very high humidity level. I was lucky to grab a nice new cab out front of the hotel and had a very pleasant conversation with the driver. I got a lot of insight into the public housing in Singapore as well other areas of the country that are government run. The driver pointed out for ... read more

Day 5 Tuesday October 6, 2009 I slept in this morning and decided to once again have room service for breakfast although I just had coffee and toast. I spent the morning catching up on emails and facebook. Since I did not have use of a camera today I decided to visit places that I could walk to that either I had visited before or would not be photo opportunities. Thankfully I had taken photos of these areas before so I could include them in my blog. I decided to walk along the river towards Clark Quay to see what I could find. Interestingly even though it was approximately 11:30 the restaurants were all very quiet. I fear the economic crisis is also hitting Singapore's tourist trade. It is amazing to me how many restaurants I ... read more

Day Four Monday October 5, 2009 Rich awoke early to get ready for his meeting and I decided to sleep in. I awoke around 8:30am and planned my day. I decided I would venture to the upscale shopping area that we had seen so many times during our travels. Since I would be eating alone I elected to order room service. I decided to order an American breakfast but actually found it too heavy and left most of it on the plate. It is very interesting to see how the Singaporeans eat breakfast. Miso soup, fruit, rice and fish. I think tomorrow I will go back to their style of eating. I headed out to catch a cab to Orchard Street to take in Orchard ION which is a new high rise mall just completed. There ... read more

Day Three October 4, 2009 We awoke at 7:30am which is very early for us especially on a Sunday. Of course the first thing I thought about was that one of our kids may be trying to reach us via skype so we turned on our computer and sure enough hooked up with Jared and Laura who are celebrating their one year anniversary in Puerto Rico. We had a great conversation with them, skype is amazing if any of you are looking for a free way to communicate over the Internet with voice and picture. We enjoyed breakfast in the lobby and decided that we would head to Chinatown for the morning. Chinatown is a very large area of Singapore with shops and stalls through out the area. Restaurants, and food markets selling foods that we ... read more
