This was a UCSD study abroad trip that I took in September of 2008. I found out about it through the anthropology/archaeology department, and applied freshman year and got accepted. It was my first trip abroad that I'd taken without my parents and I was extremely excited about the opportunity. The trip was led by Geoffrey Braswell, one of UCSD's archaeology professors, and there were about 20 other students along with myself on the trip. We started out in Merida, on the Yucatan Peninsula, and drove through the peninsula in two vans to different archaeological sites, then crossed into Belize and Guatemala to see the pyramids there. Highlights included the ruins of Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Piedras Negras, Yaxha, Tikal, Palenque, Calakmul, Seibal, Copan, Tonina, Caracol, and Yaxchilan.
