Memories You bring back great memories of my youth. Backpacked easily 2,00o miles in those beautiful Sierras, including the entire John Muir, twice. I've heard the back country, in spite of the state population having more than doubled since, is a lot less traveled these days. It was the thing to do in the late 60's and early 70's. Sometimes had to wait 5-6 weeks for a wilderness permit. I thought I might suggest to you, that you find some type of repellent which is 99-100% DEET. I used to use a product named "Muskol." 100% DEET. Those big old skeeters would stay at least a foot away from your hide. In fact, You know how they sometimes swarm just above your head? I'd stick my arm up into the swarm and they would actually back away. And, a little goes a long way.
Good luck to you and yours on your adventures. I am envious. BTW, do you do any Trout fishing?

Wow, sounds sort of similar to my 2004 trip! We spent 21 days in the Kara-Su valley just next door and had rain almost every day as well with snow on top of Asan and Usan (our objectives). We ended up climbing the Diagonal Route on the Yellow Wall (past the wrecked portaledges of the kidnapping) and then seiged a new line to the left of that fixing a pitch or two each day before the rain. Really have to go back!

Nangma Valley (AMIN BRAKK) Pakistan Amin Brakk is one of the most well known rock wall in Nangma Region, The mount Amin Brakk is situated in inaccessible Northern Area of the Karakorm Baltistan, There more attempts during the summer of 1999 and remarkably tow of these were brought to a successful conclusion. West face of Amin brakk (generally quoted as 5850m but thought possibly higher) close to the head of a side branch of a Nangma Valley, Amin Brakk was first attempted in May '96 by the Basque climbers, Jon Lazkano, Lazkano first saw the wall during a visit 1998, when he attempted a line on the adjacent North West Face of Nawaz Brakk during possibly the first serious climbing expedition to this hidden peak, it is on of the most complex and extended wall, it is hardest than Trongo Tower, The face formed the target for a group of a British climbers first saw the wall during a visit previous year, but they found the initial section to be objectively dangerous and instead turned their attention to the walls of Nawaz Brakk, where they established a new British line. There also anther peak the Peak name called Shingu Chatpa (Great Tower 5600 m) First Ascent was in 2001 by American, in 2004 Austrian and Slovenian, Amin Brakk and Shingu Chatpa, which both contain hundreds of beautiful granite spires. Great Blog Hi, Just settled down after arriving back home in Cape Town.
Enjoyed reading about your adventures and we hope that you both have a great Christmas.
Looking forward to seeing you here on day.
Sounds like you're nearing the end of this particular journey. Thanks for including me. I feel like I've been along the road for a part of it with you. Cheers - Steve
Lesson in male attention So, we're sitting in Bangkok, caffeinated and taking some time this morning to update the blog and read your comments (love them, by the way). Philippe is just now figuring out what I've written, thanks to your responses. 'what did you say about my truck? why is everyone asking about sex?' Hilarious! Thanks again to all of you for reading and commenting!
what is a 2005 New York purse? so first, you have to understand where we were.... in the middle of this beautiful place - a lake at the foot of some ginormous mountains (Mustag Ata and Kongur, for those of you with a map) - this remote place that was part western china, part tajikistan, and part kyrgyzstan. This older, unkempt woman came out of her yurt to sell us anything she could find. The purse was, in fact, just that, a purse. Maybe big enough to hold sunglasses and lipstick. It was covered in glitter-writing that read, you guessed it '2005 New York.' Who knows where it came from, but it was the kind of thing you could have bought in Times Square (3 years ago, that is).

Welcome to our blog.... we moved out of our house in the spring. We spent three months living in the car, traveling around the western US. Next, we downsized a little further into our backpacks to spend the next five months traveling around Central and Southeast Asia. We spent time in Kyrgyzstan, China (Xinjiang), and Pakistan... and then Thailand, Myanmar (Burma), and Cambodia.
Lots of rock climbing and trekking, with a little beach time and Wat visits to keep things relaxing and educational. We hope you enjoy and look forward to reading your comments!
