Challenges and rewards
Gosh darn it you've got to learn to read the brochure! Deciding to take an adventurous walk and ending up on one and saying oh shit are two different things. You crack me up. We admire your tenacity. I can't imagine how miserable you were with your allergy to the grass. How awful. You've seen some amazing country. I'm thinking your next trip should be a little cozy or maybe a nice relaxing beach with no exotic grasses. Your stamina is amazing. It does look beautiful.

The gorgeous Larapinta Trail

Impressive
You never cease to amaze me Rachael...not aiming for casual strolls...only hard slogs will do. Your allergy to Buffel Grass inflaming your legs was clearly a downer...but you never aimed to make it a stroll in the park. Is that allergy familiar to the organizers or medicos?

Buffel grass
That might be the last hard slog for a while, I'm definitely up for a casual stroll now! No, nobody had seen anything quite like my legs before. The heat aggravated it, which really didn't help at all. It disappeared eventually, so not all bad I guess :)

Camel Safari.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog and looking at all the photos.
21st May 2014

Glad you enjoyed reading about it, it was certainly a fun weekend.

I think you may be becoming an aussie Rachel
I love your staycations as much as I love your foreign lands blogs. I admire you - camels are not the most comfortable things to ride. Am certainly going to drop into Mr Micks if I am ever out that way.

PS - I will always be a kiwi!! although it is 2 years today since I arrived here and I'm still enjoying it!

Camels
The good thing about this trek is that you didn't actually have to ride the camels! I was only on it for about 2 hours at a time, and that was manageable, then I just walked. And three days was plenty. DEFINITELY go to Mr Micks! If only for the semi-freddo :)

What an adventure, and not a snake in sight?!
I was with you until you started talking about bush toilets...but I can see how a drop toilet is luxury compared to no toilet :)
19th May 2014

I was very happy to not spot a snake.....I didn't look out for them at all. As for the drop toilets, I did wonder what my life had come to when I was thinking that the long drops were luxurious!!

Wonderful trip
Nice blog. How was the Larapinta trail? I'm just back from a lovely night in Hawkes Bay with Yvonne. We went up for a lunch at Woodford for Dame Kate Harcourt. Nice to go back to school, can't remember when I was last there. We also had dinner at Elephant Hill, took in the Famer's Market in Hastings (fabulous) and drove up Te Mata Peak. Lovely night away and I'd forgotten how gorgeous it is in the Bay.

Larapinta was good - hard too! Blog coming soon....your trip to the Bay sounds great. Look forward to hearing more in a couple of weeks time.

Luxury
A long-drop toilet? Oh my you've changed. :) ha. Sounds perfect and better than beating the bushes. What an adventure. I don't think I'd sign up for 3 days on a camel. Glad you had fun.

Luxury long drops
I know, who would've thought it! It was more fun on a camel than I would've thought!

Wow is right!
I lived in Tassie for seven years, yet didn't make it to Mt William NP. Clearly I need to go back sometime.... great photos, and nice touches of humour.
1st February 2014

Apparently it's the least visited national park in Tasmania....so not a lot of tourists. But spectacular, so definitely worth the visit!
1st February 2014

Just beautiful
So glad your leg held up for the four days. The walk and post-walk pampering sounds amazing, I think you've 'convinced' me to do it :)
1st February 2014

It was stunning...now I want to do one of the other walks down there!

The secret
Oz's best kept secret...Tasmania...stunning one day...and everyday. Mt William NP to Bay of Fires...those that have been there agree with your superlatives. Another RJT winning sojourn.
1st February 2014

You were lucky to have so long down there...I'm looking forward to reading your blogs and seeing the photos. It's a truly magic spot.

Bay of Fires
This walk looks truly amazing - although the tiger snake was probably a bit close for comfit - you didn't make any mention of it except for the photo. Tasmania is certainly worth while a visit

He didn't want to hang around! I got very good at stomping my feet to warn snakes away.

Lunch with a view!

Glamping!
As an ex-backpacker, I must say this sounds infinitely more attractive! Facials and wine tasting, set-up cabanas and 3-course meals sound so much better than ramen noodles and carrying a tent. What a fantastic experience and a life-style to aspire to. You work full time--you deserved this!

Glamping
I am definitely converted! It would be hard to revert now...although in my defence I did carry my own pack!
