Greetings from a shivering traveler. You may have read or heard about the winter weather here in China. It is certainly much worse in Northern China than it is here in Southern China. However, we were involved it the recently reported snow storms north of us. The snow closed the railroads, and the highways stranding a lot of people. It was estimated that 40,000 yes, 40,000 were stranded at the railroad station. Can you imagine 40,000 people stranded in an American railroad station? That number is down to 20,000, still not a trifling number. The Chinese Government has been doing a very good job coping with the situation. We here at the American Consulate took up a collection for food, warm clothing and money for the stranded people and had excellent results. In addition, the International
