Geo: 19.8841, 102.142Susie's week Elephant Nature Park is an elephant rescue and rehabilitation centre in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Their sole aim is to provide a better life for elephants that have suffered under the hand of humans that use elephants as slaves in the logging industry, entertainment in circuses, transport and entertainment in the tourism industry and for begging in the streets. As a part of the volunteering week the park showed us some videos that truely represent what these poor animals go through. To put it lightly, babies are taken from their mothers at a very young age, tied into a cage and tortured for 4 to 7 days, even more depending on how compliant they are. Geo: 19.91, 99.83We started as most do, in Bangkok. After research and plenty of advice we were skeptical about this city. We wouldn't really describe ourselves as 'city people' so booked a couple of nights in a fairly central hostel (but away from backpacker central Kao San Road) and decided to have a look around while we were there and while trying to figure out where to go next. In Bangkok we visited a few places such as the ... read more

Geo: 7.20934, 79.8341We've had a great 2 weeks in Sri Lanka! The first week was manic as we had to fit in so many things in a short amount of time but we did it! So... Firstly we took a 5 hour train to dambulla cave temple which is a buddhist temple carved into and out of a mountain. We had to climb quite a few stairs in order to get there in the blistering heat but it was pretty cool once we got there! Then we rushed to Sigirya or 'lion rock' to (again) climb the stairs to the ancient palace ruins at the top and to see probably the most spectacular sunset/ view we have ever seen. The next day we travelled another few hours to Kandy where the following day we got on ... read more
