to my love... thane jacob: just wanted to say i miss you like KKKAAARRRAAZZZZZZYYYY...like more than an engineer misses math class over the summer...can we please hang out this year at school?? sorry for such a random note, that has absolutely nothing to do with your amazing travels...but sounds like youre having a blast :)
Reading your blog about Firenze brought me back to my most recent trip there and made me miss it terribly. I wish you had more time there since there are a lot of great hotspots that you would have loved; the piazza della republica is full of live music and great espresso. When in Rome make sure to go to the Piazza Campo Dei Fiori. Its an old Jewish Ghetto with some of the only cheap shopping in Rome and the most beautiful flowers. Just dont go there at night unless you want to buy drugs/get stabbed. Also, go to Capitoline Hill(next to the forum) just dont go in the museum. It's 7 euro and only worth it if you're a real Renaissance art buff. Keep writing!!
La Cucina Ebraico-Romanesca In Rome, try to sample some of the ebraico-romanesca cuisine. A good place is kosher La Taverna del Ghetto. Must tries: carciofi all giudia, whole artichokes fried in hot oil, cooled, then fried again in hot olive oil. They look like crisp chrysanthemums. Other Jewish-Roman dishes include filetti di baccala (fried/battered codfish), suppli (battered and deep-fried rice and mozzarella balls), and roasted or grilled abbachio (lamb).
A Trip to Remember Your Mom told me about your fascinating travelblog. Mazel tov on your trip. You'll remember it for the rest of your lives. I took a similar trip through northern Europe and Israel 34 years ago.
I couldn't be more jealous At the moment I'm sitting at work reading your blog instead of doing something productive. Don’t tell my boss. I'm so jealous of all the wonderful experiences you are having...and all the art you get to see!!! As I hope to one day be an art conservationist I'm salivating over all the famous museums and cathedrals you're attending. The blogs also make me miss Jacob's wit terribly. I haven't laughed this hard since the 45 minute tour around his room. I wish you many more happy affairs and can't wait to read more about your travels! ~ Johanna Tanzman - Johanna Tanzman
Next time, take me I haven't laughed this hard in a year. I'm now hooked - like American Idol or Apprentice - I can't wait for the next episode. Can't wait to see the pictures. Thanks for sharing your journey in such a wonderfully descriptive and often hysterically funny way! I'm thinking the French have no idea what's coming to town... - Sue Manaskie
