Hi everyone, So last time I wrote we had been refused entry into Burma so we left Bangkok the next day and headed down to Koh Tao a diving Island where we just relaxed at the beachside bars on bean bags, one night we went out to a beach party and had our first bucket (a lethal concoction of alcohol served in a bucket with red bull and slurped through a handful of straws) and everyone ended up dancing on a table in the middle of the sea with the waves crashing over it. The next night we sat at a lovely bar on the beach where they set off these mini paper hot air balloons (like they do in “The Beach”) Next we headed down to Koh Phangan. We headed straight for the fullmoon party ... read more

Hi everyone, Well what do you do if your stuck in Bangkok but you have to leave. We were planning on going to Burma today, flights were booked and everything, but when we went to get our visas they had refused to give me one and wouldnt say why, quite scary when you have to leave the country the next day! So tomorrow we are getting the bus all the way to cambodia and back just to be able to stay in Bangkok. This is now the 5th time in Bangkok and we are starting to get a little fed up with it! Anyway since I last wrote I have been travelling with my parents for three weeks, I left Aaron while he travelled through Cambodia and flew to Bangkok for the second time! It ... read more

Well we've spent the last three weeks in Vietnam, it's got good bread, secret tunnels, deserted beaches, too many motobikes and lot and lots of fish. We meet up with dean in the new capitol Hanoi, and with a population of 8 million with 4 milliion motobikes, we started to learn how to cross the road. it's amazing they don't crash in to each other, well not til it rains anyway. We saw a record of 5 people on one, matresess, bicycles and even 3 pigs! We also went to see the traditional water puppetry, was a bit silly and we didn't understand anything but it was quite entertaining. Then we headed around Halong bay for 3 days, spending a night on a Junk boat and one on Cat Ba island. The bay is beautiful with ... read more

Asia » China April 15th 2007

Hi, So we left Xi'an and travelled on another overnight train to Shanghai, we ended up having to run with our backpacks and flip flops on (not a good combination) to make sure we caught the train. We spent 5 days in Shanghai wondering around the city and the gardens, we wet up the Jinmao Tower for a great view of the city and wondered around all the little back alleys of the city. Then it was on to Wuyi Shan on another train but through the day this time so we just booked seats. Its weird here in China, people really stare at you because your western looking and they are so interested in what you are doing. On the train we had one doctor sat with us who could speak a little English and ... read more

Hello, Well we have now completed our trans mongolian train journey and are in China. We spent our week out in the desert which was amazing, we drove for seven days through complete nothingness in the snow and the scenery changed everyday, we saw snow peaked mountains, sand dunes and rolling hills. Each night we stayed with a different family, who survive on there sheep and goats so the meals were very basic, mutton and home made noodles most days which looses its appeal after you just seen this lady peeling the last bits of raw meat of the bone and eating it with her hands which are probably covered in goat poo! Everynight we go to bed sweating because the stove was so hot and wake frezing in the middle of the night in about ... read more

Asia » Mongolia » Ulaanbaatar February 15th 2007

Hey, So we have just about learnt a few words in Russian, please, thankyou and cheers! and we've left the country! After a few more nights filled with vodka shots and midnight trips to the banya (sauna to wash) with crazy russian men whipping themselves with tree branches we left Olkhon Island heading back to Irkutskt for one night before we left. The train ride was 36 hours from Russia into Ulaan Baator (Mongolia) as it took 11 hours to cross the border, with a stinking cold and nothing but cardboard like tissue paper you can imagine how red my nose is now! As we crossed the border the lady in the french guys cabin went and bought 10 mongolian beers to welcome us into the country, they all seem so friendly here. Today is the ... read more

Hi everyone, We have come a long way since my last email we have now covered about a quarter of the world. At the moment we are on the most amazing Island called Olkhon, on Lake Baikal, it is the deepest lake in the world and at the moment the whole thing is frozen. It was a bit of an experience getting here, the night before we left the mainland we met two french guys (one who looks like ... read more

Hi everyone, So we are now in Russia, we left Rakvere on the overnight bus after spending about 6 hours waiting in this little pub with all our luggage drinking apple cider. We went to the bus stop and made our dinner, plastic cheese, processed ham and frozen lettuce sandwiches-yummy! We got to the border about 2 hours later and this man in army gear came on checked all our passports and took them away for about 15 minutes- that was easy- we thought! but that was just leaving Estonia, we drove up another 100 metres and they made an announcement, no idea what but everyone got off the bus and got there bags-so we just followed-this was the Russian border, we had to go through like airport security and have our bags scanned, as we ... read more

Hey Everyone, We arrived here in Latvia last night with a bit of a bumpy landing in a snow storm! We managed to get lost already trying to find the hostel because we got off of the bus way too early but we found a Latvian couple who we followed round loads of little streets with all of our stuff to a tram stop which evetually got us to our home for the next two nights, Fun Friendly Franks Backpackers, the cheapest we could find but its actually quite nice and we get free tea, internet and a beer when you get here! Last night we went for for dinner at Steiku Haoss which was lovely but we didnt realise there were 30 Harley Davidson members who had come from Sweden there having a party. Soon ... read more
