Here is a short rundown of the quality of South African roads for visitors (normal and those to the 2010 World Cup). Tourists in South Africa don't use the trains, and flight or roads are the only real public transport infrastructure that should be considered. Flights for the World Cup will be EXTREMELY expensive as the cheap tickets have all been taken up by travel agents already. They are gone, and you can expect to pay no less than Eur 200 per ticket for inter city air tickets. Normally there are many specials with All-in ticket prices of around Eur 35 to Eur 40 available.
